Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during the term) position for the PacWave at Oregon State University (OSU). Student Technical position for the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU) - PacWave. This student hire will work with PacWave managers and technical staff supporting the preparation, assembly, and testing of oceanographic moorings equipment and instruments. Ensuring the prosperous deployment and operation of oceanographic moorings, which are crucial for gathering data in marine environments.

Position tasks
   » Assist in the maintenance, cleaning, and organization of equipment and instruments used in oceanographic mooring operations.
   » Help keep inventory records updated and ensure that all necessary items are readily accessible for assembly and deployment.
   » Work closely with team members to assemble various components of oceanographic moorings, following established procedures and safety protocols.
   » Assist in the testing and calibration of instruments before deployment to ensure accurate data collection.
   » Provide logistical support during mooring operations, including loading equipment onto vessels and assisting with on-site assembly as needed.
   » Maintain detailed records of equipment usage, assembly procedures, and any issues encountered during deployments.
   » Assist in preparing reports summarizing deployment activities, equipment performance, and any notable observations or findings.
   » Disassemble and refurbish mechanical, electrical, and data systems that will be used in remote observing platforms

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
   » Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
   » capability to follow instructions carefully and work effectively as part of a team.
   » Comfortable working in outdoor environments and potentially on research vessels at sea.
   » Basic expertise of scientific instrumentation and/or mechanical aptitudeDemonstrated skills in splicing and rigging techniques for chain, rope, and cable used in mooring deployments.
   » practice with common shop tools (hand tools, power tools, materials handling)
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » practice working and/or living aboard vessels
   » capability to read and use nautical charts, both electronic and paper charts. (plotting positions, determining depth, lat/long conversion)
   » practice in rigging techniques for securing equipment and instruments on research vessels.
   » Strong seamanship skills and practice working with over the side operations.
   » Oregon Boating Safety Education card
   » CPR/First Aid certification
   » Vessel maintenance practice
Working Conditions / Work Schedule The student worker may be required to work up to an approximate 24 hours per week during enrolled term and 40 hours between terms*.
