KERA, the public media company of North Texas, is searching for a dynamic and practiced Systems Engineer to join our team.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Systems Engineer will provide technical and customer support for all Engineering and broadcast-related departments within KERA. This includes troubleshooting, repairing and performing preventative maintenance of television and radio broadcast and production equipment located at all of KERA's facilities, including remote sites and satellite offices.

Reporting directly to the Director, Engineering, the Systems Engineer will work with other Engineering team members to ensure that all systems and equipment are functional, actively diagnose and solve problems, maintain good working knowledge of all KERA broadcast and production systems.

This is a full-time position, which is classified as FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
   » Implement new technologies to advance the operation of the broadcast facilities
   » Lead and attend planning meetings for integration of larger scale technology projects
   » Lead efforts to ensure broadcast equipment software has optimal performance
   » Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with equipment and processes
   » Communicate vertically and horizontally to address day to day engineering issues
   » Create custom solutions to difficult challenges as they arise
   » Maintain broadcast transmission facilities as needed
   » Meet with content producers to plan special remote events
   » Provide engineering services for remote productions of live content.
   » Respond to operational needs of Radio, News, and Television departments and provide support for non-broadcast off site community outreach events
   » Work directly with vendors to procure technology solutions
   » Maintain departmental records which include, but are not limited to:
   » Engineering Service Request Forms
   » Parts and Equipment Inventories
   » Equipment maintenance and repair histories
   » Equipment drawings and workflow documents

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE prosperous:
   » Advanced technical training/practice in information services and software
   » 3-5 years of practice in electronics
   » Advanced knowledge in all major computer operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux etc.)
   » Mid-level knowledge of IP device networking and sub-netting. Including network switch configuration and maintenance
   » Working knowledge of productivity software platforms such as the Office365 Suite with a strong capability to collaborate.
   » capability to complete tasks on a deadline
   » Maintain and update technical documentation
   » Strong time management expertise
   » Strong project management expertise
   » Excellent oral and written communications expertise
   » Proven capability to work prosperously as part of a team, and collaborate with internal and external contacts
   » Knowledge of FCC rules and requirements
   » broad practice with computers, content automation systems, audience data systems, and digital production
   » practice with managing media and content management systems (near-line and archival)
   » Proactive ambition to lgain and grow knowledge in an ever-changing broadcast environment.
   » Must be able to periodically work on weekends, irregular hours, holidays, and as needed located on the 24/7 nature of engineering a broadcast facility
   » Valid Texas Driver's License and insurance required for assignments/activities that involve work outside of the main office. Must maintain a clean driving record.

BONUS IF YOU BRING:
   » Specific practice with PRSS/Content Depot, ENCO, Wheatstone network systems, studio IP-located interconnection equipment, Burli CMS, Myers ProTrack and Nielsen are strongly desired
   » practice working within the public media system in an PBS/NPR-located station environment. Familiarity with Public Radio Satellite System (PRSS)/Content Depot and PBS interconnect operations and standards
   » Familiarity with programming command languages such as C-#, SQL, etc.
   » practice with computer aided drafting software
   » practice or familiarity with RF broadcast systems

income RANGE
$65,000-75,000 annually, depending on practice.

Job location:
We expect that this position will work out of our Dallas office 80% of the time. Work may be required at remote/satellite locations as needed and assigned.
