This position is designated as ?mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.

Primary Purpose of Position The Recycling technician supports the recycling department to provide waste reduction and recycling services for the campus. This position helps keep areas clear of trash and recycling; transports materials to their appropriate disposal locations and prepares the material to be removed from campus.

Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications:

Some expertise of cleaning procedures, capability to follow instructions and to execute medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.

University Preferred Appropriate qualifications:

Some expertise of cleaning procedures, one year of practice demonstrating the capability to follow instructions in operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.

Essential Job tasks The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Facilities Management Department is seeking an outgoing motivated person to join our staff as a Recycling Technician.
The Recycling Technician supports the Recycling Department and its efforts to reduce waste, increase recycling, and maintain the cleanliness of campus by preforming tasks that include but are not limited to:
1. Operate vehicles and equipment to help process materials (carts, trailers, pallet jacks, leaf blowers, etc.)
2. Perform the majority of the assigned job tasks outside for housing and in park decks.
3. Collect materials and data connected with recyclables and landfill.
4. Report, prepare, and transport diverted materials to designated locations.
5. Ensure that materials are properly sorted and free from contaminants.
6. Maintain neat, clean, orderly and safe equipment and collection locations.
7. Provides backup in other areas as assigned.

Other Work Responsibilities 1. Assist with special events
2. Exert between 10 lbs. and 50 lbs. of force as required to move pallets, bags of trash and recycling, gas powered blowers, and other supplies and equipment.
3. Perform other tasks as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations of the department.

11. Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to execute the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification.
Valid driver's license required. The Recycling technician operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
