Minimum practice/Education The Global Media and Internet Concentration Project (GMICP)
research adjunct appointee must have recently (within the last 5
years) been awarded an MA degree or equivalent.

Departmental Preferred practice, Skills, Training/suitable education Research Special Skills: The temporary GMICP research adjunct
employee will have already acquired an MA or equivalent degree
by the official start date and should be able to exercise good
research judgment daily. The employee must be judicious in
locating research sources, evaluating information quality,
triangulating information for quality, and writing research
summaries and reports that serve the independent research
missions of GMICP, a multi-country, multi-year $ 2.5 million (CAD)
research grant. GMICP's China Team Lead is Dr. Min Jiang, a
faculty member in the Department of Communication Studies at
UNC Charlotte.
Bilingual Requirement: The GMICP research adjunct must be
fluent in both English and Chinese, in oral and written formats.
Preferable Special Skills: The GMICP research adjunct must be
familiar with Chinese media and Internet landscape, able to locate
private/public research resources and use proprietary research
databases at ease, and agile in compiling data in Chinese and
English using both predetermined and evolving research criteria.

tasks and Responsibilities The GMICP research adjunct is a professional apprenticeship
designed to provide recent MA recipients with an opportunity to
further develop research skills acquired in their master's
programs or to lgain new research techniques, in preparation for an academic or research career.
Candidates for this position should have data collection, analysis
and report skills, demonstrated practice in writing and
publishing. Preference will be given to candidates with an
academic publishing track record.
In the process of further developing their own research skills, Information technology is
expected that research will also play a significant function in the
performance of research at the University and augment the function
of graduate faculty in providing research services.
Within the confines of the specific research focus assigned by that
faculty member, the GMICP Research adjunct functions with a
considerable degree of independence and has the freedom (and is
expected) to help publish the results of his or her research or
scholarship during the period of appointment.
