Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time, 9-month, Science Laboratory Preparator position for Oregon State University - Cascades Campus.

This position will be located in Bend, Oregon.

This position provides support to science laboratory teaching programs by preparing chemistry or biology laboratories for use by students and faculty, including, but not limited to, preparing media, solutions, and other teaching materials; maintaining laboratory equipment and instrumentation; budgeting, sourcing, and procuring all supplies, and testing the laboratory exercises/experiments to determine if their directions and procedures are appropriate to achieve desired results.

OSU-Cascades, located in Bend, Oregon, is a campus of Oregon State University. Established in 2001, the university currently enrolls more than 1,300 students in bachelor's and master's degree programs. The campus expanded to a four-year university in 2015, and opened its 10-acre campus in fall 2016. The Oregon legislature approved additional funding in 2017 and 2018 for continued campus expansion, which is currently in progress. The campus has ambitious enrollment goals to reach 3,000 students and is engaged in building a culturally diverse and community-centric educational environment.

Key Responsibilities 50% Teaching Laboratory Preparation and Maintenance.

30% Other tasks as assigned.

10% Chemical Stockroom & Equipment Maintenance.

10% Work with University EH&S dept to maintain a safe working environment in the laboratories for all students, faculty, and staff. Maintains safety and/or EH&S records for any student, faculty, or staff operating within the teaching laboratories.

What We Require
Twelve college credit hours with passing grades in a physical and/or life science, which included laboratory procedures, such as anatomy, biology, botany, chemistry, general science, geology, physics, or zoology; AND one year of laboratory practice which provided a expertise of laboratory testing and/or demonstration methods and techniques.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal
history checks every 24 months.

What We Would Like You to Have Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or other closely related field with a background in a number of science sequences in chemistry specifically including General, Organic and Analytical Chemistry;
OR
Bachelor's Degree in, Biology, Microbiology or other closely related field with a background in a number of science sequences in biology, specifically including Microbiology.

More than one year of biology or chemistry laboratory practice which provided a expertise of laboratory testing and/or demonstration methods and techniques.

practice using and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule Working schedule is located on a 40 hour week and is expected to be during typical laboratory hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00-5:00). Scheduling can be flexible to meet specific needs. Weekend or evening hours may occasionally be required to support Student Teaching Laboratories as scheduling demands.

Extended standing and some lifting is involved in the job. The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech capability for ordinary telephonic conversations.

Must be able to kneel, stoop, crawl, and crouch. Lifting objects vary daily, ranging from 1lb to over 50lbs. Individual is exposed to safety hazards including contamination and exposure to hazardous materials or toxic substances may exist. Must be able to climb or pull self upward for 1 to 2.5 percent of the time. Use of computer screen is anticipated less than 25 percent of the time. Health/Safety exposures include noise extremes for 20 percent of the time.
