Full-Time adjunct Teacher

May 6, 2024 Brooklyn Campus Dillon Child Study Center
Reports to : Dillon Center Director
Assists the head teacher in planning activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children. Guides children through the day’s activities under the supervision of the head teacher. Acts in place of the teacher in the classroom in his/her absence.

Education

At minimum, high school diploma; some college or Associate’s degree preferred.

Essential tasks and Responsibilities

   » Adheres to everyday 8:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. schedule, as well as attendance and vacation procedures.
   » Helps to set up and maintain a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
   » Collaborates with and supports the head teacher in planning classroom activities.
   » Has the capability to sit on the floor with children or around small tables where group time or activities are held.
   » Accompanies the teacher in taking the children outside in all-weather deemed acceptable.
   » Sets up outdoor area, including tricycles, scooters, etc., when scheduled.
   » Assists the children with toileting as necessary.
   » Helps in the upkeep of the classroom materials and the good order of the classroom resources.
   » Communicates with parents clearly and objectively in conjunction with the head teacher. Gives input for progress mid- and end-of-year progress reports on children.
   » Develops a positive relationship with each child and promotes the development of self-esteem and self-discipline.
   » Assists the head teacher in the supervision of college students as they participate in class activities.
   » Helps the head teacher with weekly planning sheets, and program notes such as IEP tracking and portfolio notes, as necessary.
   » Meets with Director, adjunct Director and classroom team at a time mutually agreed upon by staff.
   » Shares in the responsibilities of preparing materials and carrying out the everyday plan as determined by the class meeting.
   » Attends all scheduled staff meetings and staff development meetings.
   » Participates in parent-teacher conferences at least twice per school year to discuss each child’s growth and development.
   » Works collaboratively with other staff members.
   » Helps with coverage in other classrooms when necessary.
   » Complies with all college, city and state regulations regarding submission of health forms and incident reports; follows emergency procedure guidelines.
   » Creates and maintains a DOH Aspire profile.
   » Attends the Parent Social (Curriculum Night) and at Dillon fundraisers.
