adjunct Viticulturist

DEPARTMENT: Viticulture

REPORTS TO: Viticulturist

REVISED: 2/1/2023

SCOPE: To provide viticultural support for Viticulturist and Vineyard Operations specializing in data collection, data entry, farm plan management, field monitoring, moisture monitoring, irrigation database, field scouting, Integrated Pest Management and assist with all day-to-day vineyard operations in Napa and Sonoma Counties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

- Work with AgCode database and utilize all relative components of the program to aid in the proper management of all client vineyards.

- Scouting vineyards and properly identifying common pests, diseases, nutritional deficiencies and communicate problems directly to the Viticulture Department on a weekly basis.

- Install traps, maintain, and monitor on a weekly basis.

- Assist, produce, and track all fertilizer, fungicide, herbicide and pest control work orders in database.

- Assist with the collection of soil, tissue, and virus samples.

- Manage formal notification of clients, including neighbors and schools for all spray applications when warranted.

- Update database for all vineyard inputs: fertilizer, irrigation, chemicals sprayed or applied, as well as cover crop and soil amendments.

- Update database for under vine weed control and cultural practices. Utilize farm plan to track operations of all vineyard work.

- Update database for irrigation management. Evaluate moisture monitoring readings, write irrigation work orders for vineyard operations. Track all irrigation applications.

- Cooperate with educational and industry professionals and participate in industry seminars, technical groups and committees including representation at State and County meetings.

- Collection of phenological data as well as the overall management of the client vineyard database, including year-end summaries/reports.

- Assist with Fish Friendly Farming, CCOF, Land Smart certifications, photo monitoring, PUR’s, water use monitoring and recording.

Preferred Appropriate qualifications:

- BS in Viticulture or related Science

- Valid California driver’s license with clean record

- One-year general viticulture practice

- Bilingual English/Spanish (field Spanish at a minimum)

- Proficient computer expertise including database management, Excel spreadsheets, and word processing.

- Good organizational and communication expertise.

- Must be willing to work flexible schedule with extended hours, 40 hours a week is normal schedule, more hours required at harvest and peak growing season.

- capability to work harmoniously with co-workers and perform tasks and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the company’s value of exhibiting the highest quality standards in all endeavors.
