Position Summary START Logistics adjunct - Summer 2024
Oregon State University's Orientation for new students is called START and is housed within the Office of Student Orientation (OSO). This orientation program consists of three quarterly sections (Winter, Spring, and Summer) which prepare new Oregon State students for academic and personal success at our institution. While the tasks of the START Logistics adjunct will vary from day to day, the primary responsibility is to support the START staff by ensuring they have the materials and supplies needed to welcome new students to Oregon State. Additionally, as an employee of the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS), START Logistics adjuncts assist the department in achieving the primary objectives of holistically helping students in transition, building a community campus-wide, and empowering students on their path toward becoming citizens of the world.

Position Details (subject to change)
   » This position will be compensated at $15.90 per hour.
   » Paid spring training will occur weekly from hire date - June 16, 2024 . Staff can expect to work 2-4 hours per week during this period.
   » Paid June training will take place June 17-24, 2024, and staff can expect to work up to 40 hours that week. This will be in-person in Corvallis, OR.
   » Staff will then work 15-20 hours per week starting June 24, 2024 through September 25, 2024. This work will happen in person in Corvallis, OR.
   » Opportunities may exist for up to 38 hours per week during the summer, if the department needs and candidates desire to work. This work may include tasks beyond the scope of this job description, upon approval by both manager and employee.
   » Please note that taking 6 or more credits of summer school classes will limit the number of hours you are able to work to 20 hours maximum.
   » START dates: June 25th-26th, June 27th, June 30th-July 1st, July 2-3rd, July 9-10th, July 11-12th, July 14-15, July 16-17th, July 18th, July 30th-31st, August 1st-2nd, August 4th-5th, August 6th-7th, August 8th, September 20th
   » Anticipated work dates are all START dates listed above, as well as some hours on the day before each START date. Anticipated work schedule will include 5-8 hours on prep days and up to 9 hours on START days, with available shifts over an extended time period from 6am to 10pm. Multiple staff will cover these shifts together as a team.

Pre-START Preparation- 40%
   » Create folder materials for guests by putting the right information in each folder
   » For each session, alphabetize and label student folders prior to check-in
   » Prepare and print name tags for each guest and put together with a lanyard
   » Pack and prep the ?day of? box to go to START check-in
   » Ensure extras of all items are included in the ?day of? box that will go to check-in
   » Engage with START Leaders and professional staff to ensure that all support needs are being met
   » Manage materials in storage room, keeping items organized, clean, and tidy
   » Print and organize agendas for START for each session as needed

During START Logistics Support - 40%
   » Deliver start check-in items to their location prior to them being needed there, often using university vehicle to drive materials to needed locations
   » Set up spaces in advance of START being there, including powerpoints, computer logins, music, and triage if there are any issues (locked doors, blocked sidewalks, etc)
   » Ensure all physical signs are posted around campus according to desired placement, as well as the set up and take down of all physical signs and tents
   » Drive or walk across campus when needed to collect and deliver extra materials/supplies
   » Deliver start customer service items to their needed location before they're needed, often using university vehicle to drive materials to needed locations
   » Ensure all items are presented in a professional way, including table cloths on tables and fully stocked customer service items
   » After START finishes at a location, follow up and collect/store items for next event, often using university vehicle to drive materials to needed locations
   » Serve as directional support for guests, helping them locate next session
   » Serve as late-night clean-up crew, moving supplies from use to storage after social activities finish
   » Serve as late-night customer service support if guests have issues or challenges with housing

Office and administrative work - 10%
   » Respond to email messages in a timely manner through work email account(s)
   » Support larger or project-related tasks as directed by the START staff
   » Use MS Excel, as well as Box and Google, to track START
   » Regularly engage on MS Teams and attend to all assigned tasks and messages present there
   » Attend all staff meetings, pod meetings, and 1:1 meetings with manager and senior start leaders

Program support for incoming students - 5%
   » Maintain positive customer service in all engagements with incoming students and families
   » Maintain a calm demeanor when interacting with students or families who may be emotional or upset
   » Act as a resource guide and referral agent for campus services and programs
   » Refer students and families to the appropriate staff person once the limits of expertise are reached

Emergencies and confidentiality - 5%
   » Maintain the confidentiality of all visitor, student, staff, faculty, and parent information as needed
   » Maintain the confidentiality of records as stipulated in FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) utilizing confidential software when required
   » Report emergencies and accidents to appropriate departments
   » Uphold all Oregon Public Official ethics rules and guidelines and asks for clarification if needed before disclosing any information outside of START orientation
   » Assist all Law Enforcement Agencies when necessary and within OSU policy and procedure
   » Other tasks as assigned

   » Pass a criminal history check conducted through Human Resources
   » Pass a motor vehicle history check that will allow applicant to drive university vehicles during work
   » Complete mandatory OSU trainings, such as mandatory reporting, FERPA, Information technology security, and more
   » Work no more than 24 hours per week total in all OSU jobs during any term where they are enrolled in classes full-time

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
