Posting DetailsPosition InformationPosting Number: 20112885 Position Title: System Administrator, Sr. FTE: 1.0 Employment type: Staff Department: Information Technology Dept Position Summary Information Job Summary/Basic Function: About this function: The Information technology Infrastructure Services department is inviting applications for the position of Systems Administrator Senior with a strong working expertise of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This position reports to the Director of Information technology Systems and Cloud Operations as an integral member of the Information technology Systems and Cloud Operations team. The prosperous candidate will have the training and skills necessary to install, configure, and maintain both physical and virtual servers that supports Lamar Universities mission. The Systems Administrator Senior will apply technical expertise in implementing policies for system security, ensuring high availcapability, and building technological sustaincapability. This position will provide system services in support of technical and functional teams as requested and will apply expertise and practice of current trends and technologies to improve and automate business processes. This individual is accountable for the following types of systems: Linux servers, VMware hypervisor, SAN / NAS storage systems, monitoring and management systems that support the University infrastructure. What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities » Install, configure, and administer physical and virtual Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, including but not limited to: user accounts, file/directory permissions, storage management, patch management, security management, NTFS/Share management and OS upgrades. » Monitor all Linux enterprise servers and proactively intervene to deal with problems. » Create and maintain documentation of system processes and procedures. » Provide OS and application troubleshooting support as needed. » Coordinate with vendors and technical support as needed. » Generate, develop, and distribute statistical reports for management » Collaborate with other Information technology team members and departments to support continuing projects and initiatives. Key Competencies: » Advanced expertise of Red Hat Enterprise Linux server administration, CLI, Troubleshooting, and day to day administration. » Advanced expertise of Linux File Structures. » Advanced expertise of Linux security best practices. » Advanced expertise of Linux storage configuration. » Advanced expertise of Linux package installation and management. » Advanced expertise of Linux file/directory permissions. » Advanced expertise of virtualization administration - VMware ESX preferred. » expertise of fiber channel SAN storage administration. » expertise of SAN/NAS storage systems. » expertise of cloud hosting services - Azure, AWS. » expertise of backup system technologies. » expertise of monitoring system technologies - NAGIOS system software preferred. » Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. » Skill in communicating technical information to others. » Skill in working in a diverse population. » Skill in both verbal and written communication. » Skill in working in a team. Physical Requirements: » Some heavy lifting required. Job Conditions: Mainly Monday thru Friday 8am - 5pm but some after hours and weekend work required as needed.
