The college offers seven bachelor's, seven master's, three clinical doctorates, two research doctorates, and seven postbaccalaureate certificate programs. The College offers four clinics: a speech/ hearing clinic, a physical therapy clinic, a substance abuse, clinical and career counseling clinic, and a pro-bono interprofessional student-run clinic. There is a growing externally funded research base, including several service and research community engagement projects. The College is housed in a state-of-the-art building on the Health Sciences Campus with 127,000 sq. ft. of dedicated space. The ECU College of Allied Health Sciences has strong working relationships with the ECU College of Nursing, School of Dental Medicine, Brody School of Medicine, College of Health and Human Performance, and College of Engineering and Technology. ECU is home to both Army and Air Force ROTC programs and is in proximity to Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine, and Navy bases. Job tasks The College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University is seeking candidates for a full-time 12-month position as a Senior Academic Support Specialist to facilitate student retention and success, interprofessional student development opportunities, and related support services to CAHS undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on the overall education practice and the achievement of expected learning results. The prosperous candidate will: • Develop, implement, and evaluate early proactive and early intervention support initiatives for student success. • Provide training, programs, and interventions that support academic, personal, and professional student success to enhance students' sense of belonging and wellness. • Serve as a consultative resource for students and faculty regarding complex student support situations. • Collaborate with the CAHS Interprofessional Educational Task Force to provide interprofessional education, focusing on activities that foster effective teamwork, individual emotional intelligence, and effective communication expertise. • Collaborate with faculty and leadership abilities to organize, deliver, and evaluate workshops and independent learning modules on topics such as: evidence-located learning techniques and strategies, time management, exam preparation, self-regulated learning expertise, professional development, work-life balance, and other areas impacting student success. • Provide individual and small-group learning opportunities for students to enhance their study expertise, clinical reasoning expertise, professional development and wellness. • Counsel students who require test accommodations and ensure students' introduction/referral to ECU Discapability Support Services. • Respond to students with academic difficulties with evidence-located interventions designed to improve performance. • Counsel students needing remediation in courses in consultation with program directors and department chairs as needed. • Consult with individual faculty to implement remediation plans and supplemental instruction in compliance with program-specific accreditation requirements. • Develop directed initiatives for specific subgroups of diverse healthcare learners such as first-generation college students, underprivileged students, learners with disabilities, nontraditional learners, etc. • Seek opportunities to grow professionally to enhance capability to fulfill these tasks. Minimum Education/practice Master's degree in the field of counseling, clinical mental health counseling, psychology, healthcare, or healthcare-related field. Two years' practice in a post-secondary setting. practice as an educator, counselor, academic counselor, education manager, or related field. License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation None Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education • Possess expertise of psychological and educational assessment techniques. • practice working with health professionals undergraduate and graduate students. • practice with Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice. • practice in an academic setting providing intervention strategies to promote well-being. • practice in conducting educational workshops, seminars, and small group sessions. • Understand cognitive development and emotional intelligence. • practice in online student support.
