Commensurate with Qualifications Position Location (City) Greenville Position Type Postdoctoral Scholars Job Category Postdoctoral Scholars Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Center for Health Disparities' mission is to reduce health disparities of vulnerable populations and underprivileged communities across the Eastern North Carolina region through research, education and training, and community engagement and outreach. The Center's faculty, staff, and community members work to reduce disparities in obesity, diabetes, cancers, and cardiovascular disease among rural, ethnic-minority, and low socioeconomic populations. Job tasks The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of research in project management, needs assessment and action plan development. These tasks are connected with the NIH STRONG research infrastructure U award: RACING AHEAD (Research-focused Assessment of Capacity, Institutional Needs and Growth strategies to Advance Health Equity and Address Disparities). East Carolina University has a longstanding mission to serve rural eastern North Carolina, a racially and ethnically diverse region with significant health disparities and adverse social determinants of health. This RACING AHEAD project will identify gaps in health disparities research capacity through an institutional needs assessment and will develop an action plan for improvement. By leveraging existing strengths, reducing identified barriers, and building a supportive infrastructure and transdisciplinary community, the action plan will catalyze a vertical growth in extramural biomedical research funding to advance health equity in our region. This is an NIH cooperative agreement. The postdoctoral scholar, the PIs and 9 Co-Is will work with all units, stakeholders at ECU and in the community, an NIH representative, a Steering Committee and an external consultant. The postdoctoral scholar will aid with project management, including communication within the team (i.e. emails, SharePoint/Teams site, minutes), campus-wide communications (graphics design, postings to listservs and social media, RACING AHEAD website maintenance). The postdoctoral scholar will help coordinate focus groups, surveys, and retreats. tasks will also include literature review, report writing, supervising graduate research students, superviseing data collection procedures, reviewing data for quality control, data entry, data analysis from mixed methods approaches, and developing presentations. Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including responsible conduct of research and human subjects training.
