Job Summary This is an Internal Employment Opportunity.

The Department of Botany & Plant Pathology invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research adjunct position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.

Reappointment will occur on an annual basis at the discretion of the Department Head and dependent on the availcapability of funds.

The incumbent will do research in the Chang laboratory. The focus of the research will be to investigate molecular mechanisms of interaction between pathogenic bacteria and plants, biocontrol against pathogenic bacteria, and interactions between plant pathogenic bacteria. The incumbent will be expected to execute all phases of scientific investigation including experimental design, collecting data and analyzing data. They will also contribute to general laboratory upkeep and mentoring undergraduate students in the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities 70%
Research and scholarship: design experiments, collect data, analyze data, present results in group meetings, prepare manuscripts.

20%
Assist with general laboratory upkeep including ordering of supplies and plant care.

10%
Assist with mentoring of undergraduate students working in the laboratory.

What You Will Need Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Plant Pathology or closely related field.

At least three years of research practice in a molecular plant pathology laboratory; demonstrable practice with Gram-negative, Gram-positive, and Mycolic acid containing bacteria as well as molecular plant-microbe and microbe-microbe interactions.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months

Working Conditions / Work Schedule Work will primarily take place in Cordley Hall Rm 3602 (research laboratory) as well as additional rooms in Cordley Hall housing common-use laboratory equipment. May include work in greenhouses located near Cordley Hall.
