Minimum Qualifications

   » Meets required academic credentials to teach at the ADN program level.
   » Possess a graduate degree with a major in nursing from an accredited institution. Will consider candidates within 6 months of graduation.
   » Meets North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements for preparation in teaching learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation appropriate to assignment. (21NCAC 36.0318 (3) Faculty)

 

Preferred Qualifications

   » Meets requirements as specified by the clinical agencies (immunizations, orientations, etc.) and AHA BLS.
   » Possesses a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
   » Has a minimum of two calendar years or equivalent of full-time practice in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
   » Has current professional licapability insurance at a rate of $1,000,000/$3,000,000.
   » Demonstrates motivation, initiative, & high degree of independence, with broad expertise of nursing and commitment to evidence-located best practice.

Summary
Must be a registered nurse and nurse educator, responsible for guiding pre-licensure nursing students' learning practices to achieve the objectives of the Associate Degree Nursing program. As a curriculum faculty, this person must guide and direct the learning practices of students through expertise, expertise, and motivation.

   » Shows organized expectations for learning and academic achievement that are clearly documented in each course syllabus and clearly communicates those expectations to students.
   » Integrates a variety of teaching and learning approaches that are designed to respond to the diverse practices of students in classes and projects a positive attitude about each student's capability to learn.
   » Possesses the capability to disseminate accurate information and to give appropriate guidance to advisees and/or students in relation to one's field of study.
   » Knows how and when to effectively guide advisees and/or students to additional campus resources.
   » Maintains accurate academic and professional records and reports in a timely fashion (e.g., POs, Travel Authorization Requests, Travel Reimbursement Requests, Field Trip Forms, Intensive/Non-Intensive Review Reports, Syllabi Submission, 10% rosters/E dates/LDAs/Final Grades, etc.).
   » Maintains expertise and consciousness of SCC policies/procedures and incorporates those policies/procedures in records/reports in a timely manner (e.g., processing withdrawal forms per two-week policy up until the start of final exams).
   » Creates an academic environment that is open and encouraging to all students. Supports open expression and diversity.
   » Demonstrates respect for advisees and/or students as individuals, including the confidentiality of information shared while interacting. Remains available, responsive, and approachable while working with advisees and/or students.
   » Upholds and models professional behavior to include the best scholarly and ethical standards.
   » Treats others with dignity and respect and is committed to the highest standards of conduct and decency in relationships with colleagues, advisees, students, and communities of interest. Discourages any form of harassment, bullying, and/or abrasive behavior directed at colleagues, students, and campus visitors.
   » Responds to emails from students, colleagues, Department Chairs, Deans, VPs, and President in a timely and professional fashion.
   » Supports the College/department/program by participating in faculty assembly/governance/leadership abilities, committee involvement/service, and faculty development specifically outside of one's discipline.
   » Seeks opportunities for professional growth specific to instruction and advising (e.g., traditional-delivery course design, hybrid/online course design, curriculum design, classroom management, practices in advising, and career coaching).
