East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 FTS and a staff of over 6,000. The university is comprised of more than 7 million square feet of facilities located on approximately 1400 acres with physical assets in excess of $1.5 billion. This includes the Main, Health Sciences, and West Research Campuses, and satellite locations all over North Carolina connected with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs approximately 500 FTE. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services. Facilities Services primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance. Current department initiatives Job tasks include: - Contributing to the Master Plan on landscape architecture, site development, lighting, sustainable practices, pedestrian and vehicular circulation, site amenities, and other various design issues. - Providing guidance for all new buildings and/or major renovation projects on campus regarding Landscape Architecture. Has significant input in the design review process from a planning and operations standpoint. Is integral in the construction of these projects, ensuring methods of installation are appropriate. Inspects construction sites and is involved in final acceptance of the building and site work. - Management of landscape designs created by outside designers. - Development of in-house landscape architectural projects from initial concept to implementation. - Providing consultation/education to academic departments regarding sustainable practices in landscape architecture. Minimum Education/practice Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment and one year of related practice; or equivalent combination of training and practice. Licensed to practice architecture or landscape architecture by the North Carolina Board of Architecture or the North Carolina Board of Landscape Architects.
