The College of Pharmacy is seeking an Associate Dean for Research. This is a part-time (0.50 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.


The Associate Dean for Research (ADR) is part of the College of Pharmacy (COP) Executive Committee, working closely with the dean, department chairs, faculty, staff, and partners to advance the research mission of the College. The ADR has lead responsibility for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of goals and related strategies to support high quality research activities and research faculty advancement, aligned with the University's and College's Strategic Plan.

The ADR serves the College internally, represents the College on University - level concerns with Oregon State University (OSU) and our strategic and academic partner, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and promotes research collaboration and reputation outwardly. The ADR serves at the pleasure of the Dean.

Key Responsibilities 60% Lead and support college-level research functions
   » Serves as a member of the College's Executive Committee and participates in college-level planning and initiatives. Establishes and supports strategic research directions, helps build infrastructure/capacity for research collegewide and in collaboration with the wider research community within OSU and OHSU. Advises the Dean on investments and strategies to increase external funding and overall research productivity of the college. Collaborates with standing committees and department chairs, and regularly interfaces with faculty to ensure shared research direction. supervises grant submission processes to ensure efficient and effective use of grant support resources. supervises centralized resource management including the High-Throughput Screening Services and other research support resources. Ensures collegewide compliance with applicable research standards and policies and acts as the liaison with the Division of Research and Innovation. Provides support and supervision of college Research Administrator position.
   » Serves as a mentor and resource to all faculty (especially junior faculty) on strategies for research directions and funding, grant writing, research training, and career development.
   » Facilitate an inclusive and supportive work/research environment for all students, staff, researchers, community members and external stakeholders.

25% Represent and advocate for the COP at the university-level
   » Assures alignment and enhances visibility of college research priorities and college engagement in research decisions on both OSU and OHSU campuses. Represents the COP at the Associate Deans for Research Council (ADRAC) and other significant standing and ad hoc research committees at both OSU and OHSU. Coordinates College research initiatives with strategic goals of the University.
   » Expedites and manages intellectual property, technology transfer and research agreements involving College of Pharmacy faculty.
   » Fosters and serves as liaison for collaborative, interdepartmental, and inter-institutional research strategies to establish new research clusters or centers, and innovative research initiatives.

5% Promote research collaboration and external reputation
   » Represents the College at local, regional, national, and international platforms to enhance COP research mission.
   » supervises promotion materials and publications describing College research areas and faculty accomplishments.
   » Serves as the College's liaison with American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy on matters relating to research.
   » Builds networks of collaborators in various skills areas related to College-wide thematic areas.
   » Engages in fund-raising efforts; serve as an advocate for the College by maintaining connections to traditional and non?traditional funding sources, including Agencies, Foundations, Corporations and Donor prospects.
10% Service

   » Provides service to the COP and Universities through committee service and leadership abilities as appropriate and requested by COP and University Administration.
   » Serves as a member of the College of Pharmacy Executive Committee, on the Associate Deans for Research Council (ADRAC) meetings, as well as other significant campus forums focused on research.
   » Serves on and participates in state, regional, and national advisory committees and professional organizations appropriate to position responsibilities.
   » Other tasks as assigned.
What You Will Need
   » Doctoral degree (PharmD, PhD, or equivalent)
   » Rank of Associate Professor or higher in the College of Pharmacy.
   » 10 years of research practice as the lead investigator
   » broad research portfolio demonstrating the applicant's capability to attract and sustain research funding.
   » capability to advocate for research in areas across the COP, and to understand the diverse strategic facilities in both campuses and partnerships within academia and industry essential for both departments.
   » Demonstrated commitment to faculty advancement and the formation of new collaborative relationships.
   » capability to effectively assist research teams and facilitate group dynamics in the development of proposals and implementation of programs.
   » Commitment to advancing diversity and to contributing to an inclusive, and equitable community.
   » Administrative skills, including budget and financial management processes, public relations, strategic planning, policy formation, personnel management, and supervision.
   » Demonstrated leadership abilities skills in setting challenging and attainable goals, prioritizing effectively, and articulating a vision for pharmaceutical/pharmacy research that responds and adapts to change, while fostering a collaborative leadership abilities environment with shared governance, and possessing effective communication skills in speaking, writing, and listening to engage both internal and external stakeholders.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule Regularly scheduled travel between Corvallis and Portland campuses is required to attend administrative meetings, to meet with and mentor faculty and trainees, and to supervise staff. Other travel is required to local, state, and national meetings. Evening and weekend professional activities are occasionally required.
