Job Summary The School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Research Associate position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head. This position will originally start in Bend, Oregon and then move to Corvallis, Oregon in the fall when the lab moves from the Cascades campus to the Oregon State University Corvallis campus. The Research Associate will supervise undergraduate and graduate students, help design and carry out experiments, and conduct original research in thermal water treatment and mineral extraction technologies. These include desalination, wastewater treatment, geothermal water treatment, treatment of mineral-rich brines, and similar areas. The research also includes control systems in thermal-fluids systems, basic corrosion science, and other areas related to water treatment systems. The Research Associate will prepare manuscripts for publication and disseminate research results through presentations. Key Responsibilities 50% Research and Engineering Conduct original analyses to design, build, and operate experiments from proof-of-concept to lab-scale demonstration in the area thermal dynamics and thermal water treatment 20% Publication/Dissemination Dissemination of results through presentation at different venues and preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. 15% Teaching Depending upon availcapability/need, there may be teaching tasks up to one thermal-fluids course per academic year. 15% Supervision of student employees and other tasks as assigned. What You Will Need » Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (thermal-fluids), Chemical Engineering, or related discipline. » Demonstrated skills in designing, building, and operating experimental setups for thermal-fluids investigations. » Demonstrated skills in conducting advanced CFD analyses and CAD using SolidWorks or similar software. » practiced in leading a team of graduate and undergraduate students. » Outstanding written and effective oral communication skills. What We Would Like You to Have » Demonstrated expertise of control systems, advanced manufacturing, thermodynamics of humid streams, multi-phase flows, and phase change heat transfer. » Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. Working Conditions / Work Schedule Typical office space is available for desk tasks, but the work is primarily hands-on and performed in a lab environment. Work schedule varies depending on the workload, deadlines, and other factors.
