Job Summary The School of Civil and Construction Engineering invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term, Research Associate position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head. The research associate will support research in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering with focus in the Infrastructure Materials discipline. The research associate will lead computational modeling studies to investigate material behavior and performance using multi-scale approaches that span from atomistic to continuum levels. At the atomistic level the research associate will use molecular dynamics and density functional theory to study the corrosion behavior of metals. At the continuum level the research associate will use reactive-transport and thermodynamic modeling principles to study cementitious materials. The research associate will collaborate with other researchers and graduate students involved in computational and experimental studies of metallic corrosion and durcapability of cementitious systems. The research associate will also be responsible for coding and management of existing software that were developed in the group. The research associate will help develop and maintain propriety as well as open-source codes. The research associate will contribute to collegiality within the School and the College of Engineering and will contribute to a culture of safety and responsibility. Key Responsibilities 60% - Computational modeling of metallic and cementitious systems; development of new codes/algorithms; manage/improve existing and new codes/algorithms. 20% - Prepare written and oral project results (peer-reviewed journal papers, conference presentations) 10% - Documentation of developed algorithms 10% - Mentoring and training of graduate students Work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and students to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive research environment. What You Will Need » PhD with skills in computational materials science with emphasis on atomistic modeling techniques » skills in continuum modeling approaches, with emphasis on reactive-transport modeling of cementitious systems » Demonstrated skills in using COMSOL, MOOSE, GEMS frameworks » Demonstrated success in publishing peer reviewed journals and other scholarly work » practice with managing and documentation of software development and codes » practice with Linux/Unix operating systems » practice with C++ and Phyton » practice working effectively with diverse groups of students, researchers, and staff.
