This position is responsible for the management and implementation of the Media Makers high school internship Career Prep program for KSPS PBS. This includes an on-site program with 8 student interns working about 10 hours/week, and a Rural program with as many of 12 students working remotely. About half of this employee's hours will go toward building and maintaining relationships with rural educators in our region and creating hybrid online and in-person internships where high school students in regional rural areas receive training in video production. The other half will go toward managing the on-site Media Makers intern program, which includes 8 students learning studio positions and field production and editing. This employee will develop an effective schedule of rural school visits, remote meetings, and student field trips to KSPS PBS. They will seek out production opportunities for on-site and rural interns so that students work with KSPS PBS Production staff to lgain production expertise by producing real-world videos such as promos, features, and social media videos to help KSPS PBS further its mission. This employee will teach field production, editing, and other production expertise. Working with the Station Manager, they will help manage the program to meet the goals set out by the Career Connect Washington grant that funds the Media Makers Rural internship program. They will also provide data and stories of impact to our fundraising team so they may secure funding to sustain the program. This person will work with our Media Makers in-person internship program coordinator, Education team, Promotion and Marketing department, and Production department.
income Range is $50,000 - $65,000 annually depending on practice
Essential Functions
   » Develop and adapt curriculum for hybrid online and in-person training of high school interns in all aspects of video production, including producing, writing, announcing, videography, audio, lighting, editing, and studio production. Guide students in production of videos for KSPS PBS use, (such as promos and videos for social media,) helping them develop professional portfolios.
   » Develop relationships and engage with teachers in rural areas to ensure the high school internship program meets the needs of rural students and educators while achieving the career-readiness goals of the Media Makers Rural program, including seeking out participants from typically under-represented communities.
   » Develop relationships with media industry professionals to ensure the Media Makers interns are properly prepared for real-world careers and/or further post-secondary training.
   » Represent KSPS PBS and our commitment to Workforce Development to all stakeholders. Participate in state and regional meetings of Career Connect Washington to share ideas and engagement opportunities. Represent KSPS PBS at regional career fairs when possible. Support the fundraising team in grant reporting and management.
   » Manage systems for tracking student and teacher engagement, learning, attendance, recruitment/selection, industry participation, and other best practices of a well-run student internship program.
   » Working with the KSPS PBS Production and Promotion/Marketing teams, direct students to produce videos needed by the station such as promos, social media videos, feature stories, and job spotlights. Ensure these productions meet KSPS PBS guidelines for style and quality. Working with the Production department, create systems for sharing files.
   » Teach students how to Interview subjects, write copy, schedule shoots, shoot high-quality video including lighting and sound; edit video to the highest standards; produce graphics necessary for a broadcast-quality end-product; and work with a production team.
   » Instruct students in the proper use of field production and editing equipment and software including Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects. Manage the program's field equipment including cameras, lighting, and audio gear.
   » Working with our Media Makers Coordinator, ensure students gain the knowledge and practice to set up studio productions including sets, lighting, and audio, as well as staff each position (such as camera, audio, floor director, teleprompter, and graphics) during studio productions.
Education/practice: to execute this job prosperously, an individual must have:
   » Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Communications, or related field AND two years of practice in field production/editing/writing/producing/directing programs or promos; OR, any equivalent combination of practice and/or education from which comparable knowledge, expertise, and abilities have been achieved. This may include education and teaching of media production expertise.
   » Proficient in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere
   » Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel
   » Demonstrated practice in video production, graphics creation, photography, or similar media production expertise.
   » Demonstrated interest in working with young people, especially teenagers.
   » High level of organizational expertise and capability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
   » Excellent written and verbal communication expertise

Flexibility: This position may occasionally require work on evenings and Saturdays
