Job Offer: Urban Forest Manager II:NC State University - Facilities OperationsJob description:Job InformationUrban Forest Manager IIBack to listTitle Urban Forest Manager II Organization NC State University - Facilities Operations Job detail The Urban Forest Manager (UFM) is tasked with crafting and executing the University’s long-term urban forest strategy , alongside connected programs, initiatives, and partnerships. this function will report to the Landscape Maintenance and Operations Director and closely collaborate with the Urban Forest Committee. The UFM develops and implements management plans, policies, and projects, prioritizing safety above all . this function adapts to evolving requirements, sets measurable objectives for tree health and maintenance , and monitors progress accordingly. Additionally, the UFM supervises the 5-7 person Tree Crew, with direct supervision of the Trees Crew manager. Key Responsibilities and tasks Include, but are not limited to: »Manage operational aspects of the urban forest , including supervision of maintenance staff. »Develop and manage annual budget for tree health management and urban forest initiatives. » Track expenditures for removals and plantings, and maintain tree inventory . »Develop and implement an Urban Forest Strategic Plan aligned with the university’s master plan. » Seek funding opportunities to support strategic plan implementation . »Review project plans to ensure tree protection and new tree placement considerations. »Develop and maintain design and construction guidelines for tree care. » Establish and maintain tree management standards and specifications . »supervise tree planting, pruning, and maintenance activities. »Represent NC State in urban forestry initiatives and public meetings. » Demonstrate strong project management expertise, facilitating effective teamwork. »Forecast potential program changes and adeptly adjust strategies in response to emerging needs. » Establish and maintain effective working relationships with campus and local community and conduct community education and outreach efforts . »Prioritize safety in tree health and employee actions and provide guidance and safety plans for all tree-related work on campus. Qualifications Minimum Education and practice Bachelor's degree and three years of practice in the area of assignment, of which at least one is managery or in a lead-worker capacity; OR an equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Other Required Qualifications Comprehensive expertise of principles and practices of urban forestry, arboriculture, general landscape architecture, design and construction. Comprehensive expertise of arboricultural practices, materials and equipment related to tree care and maintenance. Comprehensive expertise of modern arboriculture and forestry used in university and street tree programs. capability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications practice managing an urban forestry program. Certification as a Certified Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture, Tree Risk Assessment Arborist, or Board-Certified Master Arborist certification required or the capability to obtain within one year. practice with urban forestry management, asset inventory and development review. practice crafting goals and objectives as well as developing strategies to meet them. capability to build and cultivate strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. capability to lgain and adapt in an agile environment.
