S&ME is seeking a highly motivated  Staff Engineer  to join our  Construction Materials  team in  Raleigh, NC . This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain more hands on practice and advance their engineering and project management expertise working with seasoned professionals on construction materials testing projects.

What You Will Do:

As a  Construction Materials   Staff Engineer , you will have the opportunity to work and lgain under license engineers and senior staff to help develop your expertise, practice and expertise to grow in your career. Responsibilities include:
   » Performs field testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and masonry mortar/grout on construction projects for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and/or project specifications
   » Review of project plans and specifications in preparation of field site visits and observations
   » everyday use of Metafield®, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems, for recording of field observations and testing results
   » Communicate the field and laboratory observations and testing results with Construction Services and Geotechnical Project Management staff, general contractors, and clients
   » Assisting Project Management staff with review of field data, disposition of identified construction discrepancies, and preparation of formal reports
   » Prepare field and laboratory cost estimates and proposals in conformity with projects plans and specifications, International Building Code (IBC) requirements, and client-provided requests for proposals
   » Develop relationships with peers in the local engineering and construction communities through participation in local professional organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), connected General Contractors (AGC), and American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)
   » Participate in business development and marketing efforts to help pursue and win projects

Appropriate qualifications:
   » Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
   » 0-2+ years of practice with field and/or laboratory construction materials testing
   » availability to obtain International Code Council (ICC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications in the fields of aggregate, asphalt, soil, reinforced concrete, and masonry
   » EIT is a plus

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to execute the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
   » Working outdoors majority of the time in varying weather conditions
   » Walking over rough and uneven terrain
   » Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
   » Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
   » Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
   » Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
   » Working outside of normal business hours when necessary

The prosperous candidate must meet the requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy, and Reference Check Program.
