Primary Function of Organizational Unit East Carolina University is an emerging national research university with an enrollment of nearly 27,000 students. The University offers 84 bachelor's degree programs, 71 master's degree programs, 18 doctoral degree programs, and 82 departmental certificates. The University is comprised of 10 academic colleges/schools including a medical and dental school. The University is committed to the creation of a School of Public Health that will focus on covering regional needs and rural health disparities. East Carolina University is located in Greenville, N.C. within two hours driving distance of the Atlantic Coast to the east and the Research Triangle area of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill to the west. The College of Health and Human Performance is home to six academic departments. Job tasks INTERNAL POSTING: Open only to candidates currently employed by East Carolina University.

The College of Health and Human Performance at East Carolina University seeks candidates for the internal position of Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Faculty Affairs, which is a 49% reassignment of tasks performed in a 12-month capacity. This position reports directly to the Dean and is an at-will administrative appointment.

Responsibilities Include:


Serve as HHP's liaison to the ECU Graduate School and HHP's Graduate Program Coordinators


Provide support to HHP graduate program directors/coordinators and faculty by facilitating a culture of mutual accountcapability and recognition, which includes:
   » Collaborate with department chairs and program directors to support the recruitment, retention, and success of graduate students.
   » Partnering with HHP marketing/communication team and others to promote graduate student accomplishments and market graduate programs.
   » Reviewing and making recommendations to the HHP Dean related to unit recommendations for graduate faculty status (initial appointment and renewals) for individual faculty members.
   » Facilitating entries into Graduate School-sponsored award programs and competitions.
   » Promoting HHP graduate student participation in ECU's RCAW.
   » Advocate for and ensure the equitable distribution of graduate funding and adjunctships.
   » Providing guidance to graduate teaching adjuncts and graduate research adjuncts. (including responding to inquires related to financial assistance provided by the College via the ECU Graduate School) and other sources.
   » Motivating participation in development opportunities offered by the ECU GS, OFE, and others as they become known.
   » Lead efforts to establish new graduate programs that address emerging trends and meet the evolving needs of programs, students and industries.
   » Consulting with departments undertaking graduate academic program reviews and assessments to ensure compliance with university, college, unit, and Southern Association of Colleges guidelines.

Develop Faculty and Student leadership abilities Programs within HHP:
   » Enhance the quality of education, support faculty growth, and contribute to the strategic direction of the college.
   » Implement a structured faculty mentorship program working closely with early-career faculty to guide them in planning research, teaching, and service.
   » Develop and refine the curriculum for the leadership abilities Development Program, ensuring Information technology aligns with institutional goals and student needs.
   » Develop initiatives to enhance the student practice, such as establishing support systems for students' professional development, research opportunities, and teaching adjunctships.
   » Develop and maintain relationships with industry leaders, alumni, and community organizations to enhance mentorship and networking opportunities for students.
   » Identify and secure funding opportunities, grants, or sponsorships to support program initiatives.

Advance impactful strategies for faculty development within HHP.
   » Conduct periodic assessment of developmental needs of faculty and emerging faculty (e.g. graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, visiting scholars) to provide appropriate guidance and support.
   » Lead faculty professional development initiatives that complement the efforts of HHP's Associate Dean for Research and adjunct Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Assessment.
   » Coordinate and supervise the college level faculty orientation.
   » Provide guidance related to portfolio/materials development to faculty nominated for university-level and external faculty awards and recognition.
   » Advocate for faculty needs with HHP Dean, unit administrators, Faculty Senators from units in HHP, and others deemed appropriate for assisting faculty with opportunities and challenges presented by faculty.
   » Serve as liaison between HHP and ECU Office of Faculty Excellence.
   » Serve as Chair for HHP's committee on the Culture of Care, Belonging, and Opportunity (C3BO).
Provide guidance and/or referrals to campus wide and HHP learner resources in support of graduate student/learner success and well-being.

Serve on college and university committees as appointed by the Dean.

Minimum Education/practice Candidates must be current, tenured faculty members in the College of Health and Human Performance at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.
