CHEN ARCHITECTURE (MKCA) is a growing New York City-located architecture and design firm dedicated to producing innovative and thoughtful built work and applied research. The office’s projects encompasses a wide variety of scales, from the design of furniture, to interiors, to buildings, all of which is deeply informed by a commitment to craft at the highest level, a playful sensibility, and a love of tinkering, of drawing, and of making. Established in 2011, MKCA has been recognized with numerous international awards and press, and is sought after by a diverse and International clientele. Current projects include ground up houses, large scale residential renovations, community oriented projects in the public realm, and commercial interiors. Our work frequently straddles architecture, interior design, and industrial design, often in collaboration with artists and other designers, scientists, and engineers. We work as a tightly knit team operating from a studio environment in Manhattan, and all team members participate in the full spectrum of our services and activities. In March of 2020, MKCA co-founded Design Advocates (D/A), a network of design firms collaborating on projects, research, and advocacy efforts that advance equality in the built environment.Members of our team regularly participatein D/A projects and initiatives. JOB DESCRIPTION We are pursuing talented junior level architects to join our team. Junior staff work with project managers and the firm principal to develop projects from concept to realization, generating design studies and production documents, and the representation of projects for presentation. Junior staff engage the entire range of the office’s creative workflow through sketching, parametric design, digital modeling, rendering, drafting, BIM, physical model making, and prototyping. The ideal candidate is one with strong design expertise and aesthetic sensibilities, values, and an intellectualpoint of view that are complementary to the practice. We are pursuing someone who is self sufficient but highly collaborative, who is organized, detail-oriented, and eager to get their hands dirty. The position offers many opportunities to contribute significantly to the work of the office and for professional advancement.Members of our team also regularly participatein Design Advocates projects and initiatives. QUALIFICATIONS » A professionaldegree in Architecture. M.Arch, preferred. » Strong digital design expertise. Fluency with Rhino and Revit are a must. » Strong drawing and graphic expertise including in AutoCAD and the Adobe Suite. » A demonstrated commitment to making, whether through analog or digital means, including CNC milling, Robotics, 3D printing, or others. » 1-3years of professional architecture practice. This is a full-time, in-person position with acompetitive incomecommensurate with a candidate’s practice and qualifications.
