We work in underprivileged neighbourhoods with developing communities that are mainly populated by displaced peoples from the Peruvian highland and rainforest regions. Due to the effects of climate change and deforestation, they have been forced to flee their homes and now live in informal settlements around the town of Huanchaco. Many of these settlements lack basic amenities such as running water, plumbing or basic sanitation services. We are currently looking for a Multi-project Volunteer to assist us with our four community-located projects. we At Presenthave four HELP projects (Huanchaco Education and Learning Programmes) running, which are HELP English, HELP Environment, HELP Youth and HELP Literacy. This position is a great opportunity for individuals who want to work with children whilst also gaining an insight into the world of NGOs. As a Multi-project Volunteer you will be responsible for the following: » Assisting the Project Coordinators in teaching English, environmental education, youth and literacy classes at the REC » Supervising the children during sports activities, skateboarding, crafts and games. » Bringing new ideas about how to improve the program and space » Attending weekly meetings with your fellow volunteers and coordinators to plan the upcoming activities and lessons In addition to these tasks, as a Multi-Project Volunteer you will also have the opportunity to work with our partner organisations, who work on a variety of different projects, such as: homework support sessions; English classes at the library; English classes at the María del Socorro primary school; helping out at Huanchaquito dog shelter; assisting with taking inventory at the library. As a hands-on function, this position involves much more exposure to the Spanish language than some of our office functions, so Information technology would be a great opportunity for either Spanish-speaking volunteers or those looking to improve their Spanish language expertise. Our organisation is located in a quaint, seaside town called Huanchaco. Known as the home of surfing, Huanchaco is located on the northern coast of Peru with the 3rd largest city only 20 minutes away. From mid-July onwards. Our minimum stay for the multi-project volunteer position is 1 month but we are ideally looking for volunteers who are able to stay longer so that you are able to get to know and be a part of the local community in which we work. Qualifications For students, all volunteer positions are available as internships, which is ideal for students looking to complete a year in industry/placement abroad. In this case, you will receive an extra level of mentorship and all appropriate communication with your academic institution to ensure compliance with internship placement requirements.
