About the function This position acts as a vital link in the news production team assisting Newsroom Editors and the Morning Edition host to ensure morning news content serves our audience. The associate producer also assists with everyday tasks that prepare the newsroom and support morning production and newsgathering needs. MAJOR tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES » Review all audio left for the morning show in the audio vault. Adjust any audio levels as needed. » Input audio from File Transfer Protocol server sent from other stations into audio vault. » Review other information needed for morning newscasts (sports scores, overnight news events that could become copy stories for the newscast). » Write news copy for the host. » Monitor web traffic service to provide updated transportation information to host. » Alert News Editors of breaking news and developing news coverage to assist in preparation for the morning news meeting. » Monitor newsroom@whyy.org email. » Research and book guests for 2-way interviews, and help produce finished audio/web stories. » Report on and cover breaking news stories that happen before other staff is scheduled as needed. » Write cut scripts and process feeds for mid-day newscasts as required by newsroom manager. » Train on filing radio voicers and other radio production and news content as assigned. » Monitor news events as assigned online and cut up significant audio for morning and daytime newscasts. » Meet everyday with Morning Edition host to critique the show. » Work on social media presence forMorning Edition. » Position starting time is 4:00 a.m. » Prepare a everyday list for the morning news meeting, attend the meeting and participate in it. Provide details on what stories aired/did not air on Morning Edition and what was added. Share assignments and forthcoming news reporting workflows in email distribution list. » Must be familiar and be a part of WHYY's culturally competent newsroom initiative. » Maintain regular and predictable attendance. » Perform other tasks as assigned . Qualificationssuitable education A degree in journalism/communications or in another field, and equivalent expertise acquired through work practice.practice: One to two years journalism practice in radio, another broadcast medium and/or news. Software/Technical expertise: Proficient in Audio Vault, Inews ?CMS?, File Transfer Protocol, ProTools, and basic computer software. *This position is represented by SAG-AFTRA. *All WHYY employees are required to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
