Musicopia

Carnegie Hall and Musicopia seek Lullaby Project Teaching Artists for the September 2024- June 2025season.
The Lullaby Project is a program of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute and Musicopia, in which teaching artists work alongside parents and caregivers to explore elements of musical play andco-createa personal lullaby for their children. The Lullaby Projectgenerallyconsists ofa6 session cohort, each cohort running 4-6 weeks,from September to June at Philadelphia partner sites.
PROJECT FACILITATION
• Lead and/or collaborate with other teaching artists as necessary to implement the project; prepare for workshop sessions and events, coordinate details with community partners, assist with recruitment of project participants as necessary, and strategize around community building activities.
• Facilitate the musical play and songwriting process, supporting each participant to express their own voice, lyrics, and musical ideas for their lullaby.
• Facilitate singing activities that engage families to sing with their children.
• Some recording sessions and performances may be required.
• Attend all required meetings and events (internal and external). Must attend professional development sessions all over the year.
• Other project-located work as assigned.
GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE tasks
• Arrange phone calls/emails, meetings, and site visits as part of planning conversations with community partners and Musicopia/Carnegie Hall staff.
• Submit recordings, documents, statistics, and summary reports on projects.
• Observe other workshops or artists as needed to support your work. Criteria to Apply:
• Previous practice as a teaching artist, working in a range of communities, and with collaborative songwriting expertise. practice working with families, young children, and in social justice spaces a plus.
• capability to quickly establish an intimate and trusting bond with individual participants. Artists should have the capacity to connect with families from many different backgrounds, interests, and practices.
• Artists should be accomplished composers and/or singer-songwriters, with a high level of professional musicianship. Projects involve collaborative writing and sometimes collaborative performances involving project participants. Artists should be versed in a diverse range of musical genres.
• capability to work independently to write and record a song with participants - helping to craft lyrics, support melodic ideas, and document and notate compositions and arrangements.
• Regular availcapability in Philadelphia to lead projects and attend meetings as necessary. Must be available to participate in the entire Lullaby Project from start to finish, which may also include recording sessions and concerts. Weekends and evenings may be required. Start and end dates are determined by project.
• Must be detail-oriented, confident, self-motivated, and a collaborative team member.
• Must have strong organization expertise and a proven capability to multitask
• capability to speak another language fluently, especially Spanish,a plus.
