Min Hourly Rate $14.20 (Standard); $13.20 (Non-Urban); $15.45 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $18.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Technical adjunct for the Fisheries & Wildlife at Oregon State University (OSU). The Human Dimensions of Fisheries and Wildlife lab at Oregon State University is seeking a graduate research adjunct who specializes in Geographical Information Sciences (GIS), cartography, and scientific writing for the summer of 2024. As a graduate research adjunct, you will work closely with Dr. Kelly Biedenweg and PhD candidate Krista Harrington on conducting spatial analyses with existing data to answer research questions at the intersection of human wellbeing, climate change, and ecosystem recovery for California and Washington State Agencies. We anticipate at least one publishable manuscript from these analyses. Position tasks » Complete human subjects training through the CITI Program » Acquire, review for accuracy, and standardize publicly sourced GIS data necessary for spatial analyses (air quality monitoring data, FEMA flood data, temperature data, etc.) » Perform geospatial spatial analyses » Administer and troubleshoot applications and GIS solutions » Communicate weekly with the project team » The employee must be willing to follow all guidelines/protocols provided by the research team. Additional Required Qualifications » Strong knowledge of geodatabases and geodatabase applications » Proficiency with ArcGIS desktop software (Arc GIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ESRI) and data management » capability to work with vector and raster datasets » capability to effectively configure data, edit and use shapefiles and geodatabases » practice producing maps for academic publication (i.e. knowledge of map scale, proper extent, use of grayscale, cartographic considerations etc.) » Excellent verbal and written communication expertise » Detail oriented and analytical thinker » Actively enrolled graduate student at Oregon State University Preferred (Special) Qualifications » Geographical Information Systems (GIS) certificate » Knowledge of multiple programming languages that may help in creating maps (python etc.) » Previous work practice with state agencies, consultants, or project team Working Conditions / Work Schedule All work will be completed on a laptop computer indoors.
