Job tasks: About this function:

Cardinal Communities (CC) is a student success focused program which provides an introductory practice for first-year students. Peer Mentors provide yearlong mentoring to promote student success through intentional communication, outreach, and engagement. Peer Mentors assist students by providing a collaborative and welcoming environment that aids in their transition to Lamar University alongside a Professional Mentor, who facilitates an 8-week meet-up practice.

What You'll Do - Position tasks:

   » Implement weekly connection plan tasks including weekly check-in email, regular email communications about on-campus events, resources, and important deadlines, etc.
   » Check LU email regularly and respond within 48 hours or 2 business days.
   » Attend one-to- one check-ins with students when needed.
   » Attend events/activities with students when needed.
   » Record student interactions and complete administrative tasks as required by CC program team.
   » Attend and actively participate in CC foundational training, STAR (Student Tutoring and Retention) Services trainings, and university required trainings.
   » Attend weekly check-in meeting with Lead Peer Mentor.
   » Attend monthly CC staff meeting.

Required expertise, expertise, and Abilities:

   » expertise of LU campus resources.
   » High-level of organizational and time management expertise.
   » Excellent interpersonal and communication expertise.
   » capability to properly manage confidential information according to FERPA guidelines.
   » Blackboard, Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook etc.

Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
   » Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Lamar University with a minimum 2.50 GPA.

Desired Qualifications
   » Demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activities.
   » Demonstrated leadership abilities practice.
Physical Requirements:
Certifications Required:
Work Hours: Up to 10 hours per week in fall semester, up to 5 hours per week in spring semester, up to 8 hours in summer semester
Job Conditions: 12.00 per hour
