Job Description The ECU Sustaincapability Program is currently seeking a Waste Reduction Specialist intern to assist ECU Recycling Services with a number of activities through the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters with a possibility to continue working in summer 2025 and the 2025-2026 school year if job performance is satisfactory. Transportation will be required and the student will need to be able to get certified to drive a state vehicle prior to the start of the Fall 2024 semester. The student selected for this competitive function will be responsible for the following:

1. Facilitating monthly Litter Cleanups at the Town Creek Culvert - Recruiting groups of student volunteers, picking up bags, gloves, and pickers and taking them to the parking lot at the Willis Building, providing supplies to volunteers and participating in the litter cleanup, compiling collected trash for pickup.
2. Updating the ECU Recycles webpage - Intern will be required to complete WordPress training prior to the start of the fall semester in order to be able to work on website content updates.
3. Social Media for ECU Recycles - Intern will be given access to the SustainECU Instagram, twitter, and facebook in order to post campus recycling tips and rules as well as general information about the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
4. America Recycles Day - Intern will work in collaboration with the ECU Recycling Coordinator and Sustaincapability Outreach Specialist to plan, promote, and host an event on campus on Friday, November 15 to raise consciousness about recycling and waste reduction.
5. Waste Audits - Intern will work with the Sustaincapability Outreach Specialist to conduct waste audits for campus departments working on Green Office Program certification. In addition, the student will support Sustaincapability Clubs and SGA with any waste audit projects in the residence halls, academic buildings, or administrative facilities on campus.
6. Compost Pilot Projects - Intern will work with the ECU Sustaincapability Manager to monitor the progress and address any concerns connected with two compost pilot projects: one at the Belk Building off Charles Blvd. and one at the Allied Health Sciences Building on Health Sciences Campus.
7. ?Recycle Right? Campaign - Intern will work with the SGA Sustaincapability Director and the Sustainable Development Committee, Student Sustaincapability Clubs, and Student Athletes to promote recycling cans and bottles at athletic events and other big events on campus like Get A Clue, Barefoot on the Mall, and others.
8. Campus Race to Zero Waste - Intern will work with the Sustaincapability Outreach Specialist and Campus Living to promote this waste reduction and recycling competition in residence halls and online.
9. Tailgate Recycling - Intern will recruit student volunteers and use an ECU pickup truck to stop at the most popular tailgate lots and distribute clear recycling bags and educate tailgaters about proper recycling practices. This means that the student selected for this position must be available and willing to work during the 4-6 hours leading up to kickoff for each home game scheduled for the fall 2024 season (except the game scheduled during Thanksgiving Break):
· Saturday, August 31: 12pm - 6pm
· Saturday, September 14: 10am - 4pm
· Saturday, September 28: 8am - 12pm
· Saturday, October 26: 8am - 12pm
· Thursday, November 7: 4pm - 8pm

In addition, the student intern may be asked to help with promotions and setup for campus sustaincapability events, writing articles for the monthly newsletter, and other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred (Majors, practice, GPA, etc.) Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Engineering, Public Health, Sustainable Tourism, Environmental Health, Public Administration, Recreation and Park Management.
