Position Summary Information

Position Summary: The Director for Career Success Center reports to the adjunct Vice President for Community Belonging & Success and serves as a leader to provide transformative strategy, vision, multidisciplinary and data-informed approach, and overall management of the Career Success Center at Austin Peay State University. As a leadership abilities team member, this position collaborates in a cross-divisional and cross-institutional approach to boost employer engagement, career development, and lead institutional efforts on positive student career results. The Director exercises independent judgement in managing the Career Success Center.

The Director provides oversight leadership abilities with development and management of the annual operating budget and is responsible for a growing student and professional staff; including a minimum of three direct reports. this function is responsible for critical support in strategic planning to advance the vision of student affairs at Austin Peay State University. The Director will seek continuous and integrated improvements on all such matters and collaborating with campus partners to achieve Division goals

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary tasks and Job responsibilities: managery leadership abilities
• Provide supervision and leadership abilities to the Career Success Center.
• supervise the hiring, supervision and mentorship, training, and professional development of office team members to achieve division goals.
• Lead staff meetings with team members within designated scope of supervision.

Employer Development and Engagement
• Develop an employer relations strategy to attract, and engage, employers to APSU students. This strategy should include identifying top Tennessee employers, chambers of commerce, alumni networking, and sustaining an active employer advisory council.
• Drive year-over-year growth of employer partners through strategic initiatives and relationship-building activities.
• Curate and maintain relationships with corporate partners, recruiters, and industry leaders to optimize job placement opportunities. Collaborate with these entities to create
internships and job opportunities in line with curriculum requirements.
• Demonstrate expertise of current and future trends in corporate, non-profit, and governmental talent management strategies, including recruitment, retention, and development.
• Provide strategic visioning for the usage of platforms to increase student engagement with employers, exposure to nationwide opportunities, and significantly boost positive career results.
• Provide leadership abilities oversight of campus career fairs in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Career Development, Education, and Programming
• Create the career development and education strategy influenced by the student lifecycle and NACE competencies to provide enhanced career coaching.
• Design and manage overall career development/services for the campus, working across academic colleges.
• Develop and implement strategies to coach students (including individual & group sessions, special events, certification programs, video and/or online training, etc.) on career development.
• Lead the oversight of career programming such as career fair, career success summit, career peer program, interview preparation programs, and recruitment and networking programs.
• Create initatives to educate campus partners on NACE competencies and its integration into the student practice.
• Provide oversight of the on-campus student employment practice.

Data Analysis and Reporting
• Ensure accurate and current records of student employer engagement and career results using the appropriate system and technology.
• Utilize data analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of career success programs, generating reports that track career outcome rates, and monitor key performance indicators.

Department, Division, and University leadership abilities
• Maintain open communications with the adjunct Vice President for Community Belonging & Success to share information and engage in issue-spotting and creative problem-solving to benefit the University community.
• Serve as a key leader in assisting the University's response shifts in employment trends, including outreach and support to external partners.
• Identify organizational and cultural changes needed to adapt strategically to changing market and technological demands.
• Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to create customized opportunities that align with student career aspirations.
• Work closely with academic departments, admissions, and stakeholders to seamlessly integrate career advancement initiatives into the student practice.
• Proactively identify opportunities to apply an entrepreneurial mindset, innovation, and creativity to address areas of improvement and growth.
• Serve on the cabinet leadership abilities team within the Division of Student Affairs.
• Participate in related professional organizations for continuing development.

Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: Master's degree, and a minimum of 6 years of related practice; at least 4 years of managery practice. Related practices include career development and education, employer engagement, career advising, or related field.

Preferred expertise and Appropriate qualifications:

• Master's degree, and at least 8 years of related practice; at least 6 years of managery practice as an Assoc./Asst. Director or Director within areas to include career development and education, employer engagement, career advising, or related field.
• Strong expertise of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
• Strong practice leading special initiatives, programs, and strategic planning.
