Position Overview:

The Youth Media Producer (Curriculum) plays a pivotal function in the Student Reporting Labs program, collaborating closely with the Youth Media Program Director to facilitate student and educator hands-on training and curriculum. This position includes in-person and virtual events, the development of educational resources and content, managing partnerships with external curriculum providers.

Primary Job responsibilities:
   » Train and mentor students all over the entire production process: pre-production, production, and post-production.
   » Work with Youth Media Program Director to design and execute training and engagement events.
   » Organize and lead training sessions for students and educators, ensuring comprehensive knowledge of broadcast journalism production techniques, digital storytelling, podcasting, and social media.
   » Develop metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives, analyze results, and adjust strategies as needed.
   » Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources efficiently to meet program goals.
   » Conduct research and recommend production equipment, software, and storytelling tools.
   » Work with external partners on joint educational resources to co-create educational materials and content.
   » Create and refine internal lesson plans and curricula to align with program objectives.
   » Publish and update educational resources on content management platforms.
   » supervise individual production projects with student producers, providing support for story sourcing, interviewing, filming, and editing as needed.
   » Provide support on special projects, including fellowships, partnerships, professional development, and tasks as assigned.
Additional expertise and Appropriate qualifications:
   » College degree in film, journalism, communication, or a related field.
   » Minimum 5 years professional practice producing journalism or education content.
   » Or equivalent combination of education and practice.
   » A background in teaching journalism, production and video editing is essential.
   » practice in project management.
   » practice in creating lesson plans and curricula, and other educational resources.
   » Interest in working with an innovative team and the confidence, talent, and expertise to contribute in significant ways, big and small.
   » Proven capability to shoot and edit broadcast quality video.
   » practice with both professional and mobile production equipment.
   » Impeccable writing expertise
   » Highly proficient in the entire Adobe Creative Suite.
   » Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation, and time management expertise with careful attention to detail.
   » Proven capability to work effectively on a multi-faceted team that consistently works with leaders and producers in a fast-paced production setting.
   » Excellent interpersonal and communication expertise.
   » Demonstrated capability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment
   » Demonstrated capability to prosperously perform in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadlines.
   » Proficiency with data management and/or website content management platforms preferred.
   » Knowledge of state and national educational standards and best teaching practices preferred.
Job location:

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce located out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions located in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the function.
