Organizational Unit Overview The College of Education consists of seven academic departments that offer seventeen undergraduate degree programs, twenty-two graduate degree programs, six programs for advanced certification, and the Ed.D. program in educational leadership abilities.

The College of Education also administers Teacher Education, the Office of Clinical practices, the East Carolina Latham Clinical Schools Network, SECU Partnership East, the North Carolina Teaching Fellows and Maynard Scholars Program, the ECU Center for Science, Mathematics and Technology Education, Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics, and is host for NC TEACH.

Job tasks The Clinical practices Coordinator at East Carolina University's College of Education, situated within the Office of Clinical practices and Alternative Licensure, plays a pivotal function in coordinating the logistics of teacher candidate field practices and student teaching internships. Central to this function is the management of placement data and the tracking of candidate requirements, coupled with providing essential support to candidates, clinical teachers, and university managers regarding training and internship obligations. With broad interaction across various stakeholders, including candidates, advisors, program coordinators, faculty, university managers, and district partners, this position serves as a crucial liaison between educator preparation programs and district partners. The position has the potential to support alternative licensure candidates through intake and advising in response to enrollment demands.

Program Administration and Coordination (60%):

Coordinate early field, practicum, and student teaching placements for education students all over the academic year. This involves collaborating with 43 public school districts within the Latham Clinical Schools network and 38 school administrators within Pitt County for traditional campus-located students, as well as various districts across the state for distance education candidates, to secure over 300 year-long quality student teaching internship placements and over 2000 quality sophomore and junior field practices. Maintain accurate candidate field placement records in the SONIA placement management including placement site, clinical teacher and university manager assignments, internship applications, early release, placement changes, cancellations, petitions for exceptions, and removals due to major changes. Retrieve internship applications at specified intervals each semester and send reminders to advisors and program coordinators regarding application approval status. Update internship semester calendars and resources to serve multiple stakeholder groups and ensure updates are posted on the website, within canvas modules, and in the office shared drive. Process internship early release requests each semester for eligible Internship II candidates. This includes updating and distributing early release guidelines and forms each semester, verifying eligibility, communicating approvals to districts, and documenting Early Release details in SONIA. Schedule, prepare for, and facilitate student teaching Internship application meetings each semester, offering both face-to-face and virtual options. Prepare orientations on how to request practicum placements for instructors and our Distance Education candidates. Be available as a guest speaker to provide information to education candidates about internship preparation, expectations, and logistics. Communicate with district liaisons and principals to maintain an updated clinical teacher training list for all district partners. Coordinate annual Clinical Teacher training, including updating materials, managing registration, and distributing continuing education credits. Participate in activities such as the Education Career Fair, Latham Clinical Teacher Conference, and other educator preparation or College of Education events as required. Contribute to the functioning of the Office of Clinical practices and Alternative Licensure by responding to phone calls, emails, and inquiries. Develop FAQs and streamline processes to support all stakeholders. Serve on the Latham Clinical Schools Network Advisory Board, Council for Educator Preparation, and Council for Educator Preparation Subcommittees. Participate in the NC Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (NCACTE), including attending the annual Fall Forum and potentially engaging in scholarly presentations or research related to teacher education clinical practices. Ensure compliance with applicable state and district policies related to candidate preparation, field practices, and student teaching. Prepare annual reports for submission to the adjunct Dean of Educator Preparation on various initiatives related to candidate practices and preparation, including annual reporting of placements for Title II reporting. Coordinate with student worker onboarding and assign tasks that can assist in the office's work. Working knowledge of NC requirements for initial teaching license and educator preparation program completion for undergraduate, MAT, and Residency pathways. Assist the Alternative Licensure office in facilitating the Educator Residency Program as needed during high enrollment and intake timeframes. This may include academic advising for select cohorts of residency candidates, including registration and tracking NC licensure requirements such as coursework, licensure exams, edTPA, and GPA. Perform other tasks as assigned by manager.

Candidate Placement and Support (25%):

Collaborate with initial teacher preparation program area faculty to coordinate practices for all teacher education candidates. This includes connecting with individual program areas each semester to verify the field practice course list, requirements, and the level of placement support required from the Office of Clinical practices. Collaborate with district partners to verify district requirements for candidate placements are updated. Verify that MOUs are in place with new district partners for our distance education population and collaborate with the adjunct Dean for Educator Preparation to establish new MOUs if needed. Coordinate with district liaisons to maintain accurate and updated lists of trained clinical teachers and their contact information. Ensure that all forms and surveys needed to document clinical practices are distributed, completed, collected, and results are analyzed and shared with significant stakeholders. Ensure that survey results are distributed to program areas related to candidate dispositions and clinical teacher and university manager feedback. Ensure that all requirements are met for internship related to observations in Taskstream and communicate with University managers when there are outstanding evaluations or forms. Coordinate with the Office of Assessment, Data Management, and Digital Learning to ensure utilization of and determine enhancements to the SONIA placement management system related to intern placement documentation, data collection, forms, and electronic communication needs. Work collaboratively with program faculty, university managers, and clinical teachers to address issues that arise in field practices and internships. Ensure Internship I and II required Canvas orientation modules are updated and deployed prior to each semester and monitor candidate completion of module activities. Provide assistance with required Internship II licensure seminars at the end of each semester. Ensure student placements are reported in the university ELI system each semester.

Clinical Educator Development and Support (15%):

Develop broad working knowledge of student teaching internship timelines, expectations, evaluation requirements, and evaluation instruments. supervise training, development, and support resources for university managers and clinical teachers. Update and deploy online university manager training modules in Canvas each semester and respond to university manager inquiries regarding student teaching all over the semester. Facilitate Clinical Teacher training to ensure a continuous supply of highly qualified clinical teachers for internship placements. Ensure that clinical teachers and university managers are assigned accurately in the placement management system and have access to all necessary information and documentation necessary for prosperous internship supervision. supervise and facilitate the annual Clinical Teacher of the Year nomination and selection process and recognition. Collaborate with Office of Educator Preparation colleagues to plan and host the annual Latham Clinical Teacher Conference. Use feedback from University managers and Clinical Educators to assess potential areas of support and development and create additional resources and supports as needed.

Minimum Education/practice Master's degree required; will accept a bachelor's degree in education, administration, or related field and 2 years of significant practice in substitution. Professional practice teaching and/or administrative practice in public education, community college education, or higher education is essential.

Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education Preferred qualifications include the following: knowledge of public school or university partnerships, practice as a clinical teacher and/or university manager, knowledge of teacher education degree requirements, administrative and managery expertise or practices and expertise that closely parallel administrative type work. Preferred expertise include: organized; process and outcome oriented; technologically proficient; strong interpersonal relationship expertise, be highly motivated and be willing to complete large and small tasks/projects efficiently and within a short deadline, be able to take the lead on projects/tasks, be able to prioritize work/assignments to meet deadlines, be willing to take the initiative to lgain the tasks/responsibilities/expectations of the work and operations of the organization, and be willing to work alone or as a group/team when necessary. A NC license in teaching, service personnel, or in an administrative area (or eligible for the license).
