Vacancy Open to All Candidates Description of Work The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals. Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work. Essential tasks and Responsibilities Primary tasks include coordinating the general chemistry laboratories and other undergraduate laboratories as needed. The laboratory coordinator will develop lab schedules and syllabi, coordinate with the stockroom to stock the labs, train and supervise the teaching adjuncts and adjunct faculty that are teaching the introductory lab courses, coordinate with the faculty to ensure alignment between lectures and labs, and implement updates to the laboratory exercises as needed. Additional tasks may include teaching in the introductory chemistry lectures and/or upper-level courses (depending on the candidate's interests and the department's needs); and service responsibilities, such as support for departmental curriculum / pedagogy development and serving on department and university committees. Minimum practice/Education UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education, Skills and practice Required qualifications include a master's or doctoral degree (or the equivalent) in chemistry or a related area, and one semester of teaching practice at the college level. Preferred qualifications include a doctoral degree in chemistry or a related area, at least one year of practice teaching introductory chemistry courses, and practice in laboratory coordination. We especially welcome candidates from candidates with practice and interest in utilizing evidence-located scientific teaching and learning practices to foster student success in general education and introductory chemistry labs.
