Primary Purpose of Position This position serves as a Media Relations Specialist - with responsibility for assisting with the development and execution of communication strategies that help promote the expansion of the University's footprint in national, state, local and research/science media through additional research, amplification and facilitation support.

Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

University Preferred Appropriate qualifications:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a closely related field and two years of practice that provides the knowledge, expertise, and abilities needed in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.

Essential Job tasks Media Relations and Content Management
   » supervise the media/media assets site, ensuring content is current and engaging.
   » Maintain University Faculty Experts Guide and public gallery of media assets up to date.
   » Serve as a point of contact for student media requests and assist with local media outreach.

Media Monitoring and Reporting
   » Track and tag media mentions using Cision; review news alerts and reports multiple times daily.
   » Create and distribute weekly media briefs and highlights to media outlets and leadership abilities.
   » Maintain and update everyday media mention documents.
Collaboration and Coordination
   » Work closely with the associate director and director on various media and content-related tasks.
   » Assist with media inquiries and coordinating faculty expert interactions. Manage location usage agreements for external clients making requests.
   » Facilitate logistics and tools for media relations, including publishing on national news wires.
Social Media Integration
   » Monitor and recommend content for UNC Charlotte's flagship social media accounts.
   » Coordinate with the social media team to enhance visibility and engagement.
Research and Expert Coordination
   » Identify and connect with new local and regional reporters, and track media opportunities.
   » Assist in finding and preparing faculty experts for media engagements.
Other Work Responsibilities

   » Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field.
   » 1-3 years of professional practice in media relations, public relations or a related field.

   » Strong written and verbal communication expertise, with the capability to craft clear, compelling messages and media briefs.

   » Familiarity with media monitoring tools and services (e.g., Cision) for tracking and analyzing media coverage.
   » Basic knowledge of social media platforms and strategies for leveraging social media in media relations.
   » capability to research and identify significant media contacts, trends, and opportunities.
   » Demonstrated capability to work effectively with team members, including administration and external partners.
   » Strong organizational expertise and attention to detail with the capability to manage multiple tasks.
   » capability to adapt to changing priorities and handle unexpected situations effectively.
