Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 10 hours per week) Student Research Lab adjunct - Coastal Sediments at Oregon State University (OSU).
Join the Coastal & Fluvial Sediment Dynamics Lab (Eidam Lab) at Oregon State University, and contribute to time-sensitive research in coastal sediment dynamics. this function requires a self-starter with a focus on running a series of sediment analyses in the laboratory and interpreting the results. The prosperous candidate will collect subsamples from sediment cores at OSU's Marine and Geology Repository, utilize laboratory equipment to measure sediment porosity, organic content, and grain size distribution; prepare samples for radioisotopic analysis; add to a database of sediment accretion data from peer-reviewed literature; utilize computer programs for data analysis and data visualization; read peer-reviewed literature to develop informed rational for data analysis; and write concise summaries of data analyses and results.

Position tasks 90% Laboratory Analysis of Sediment
   » Collect subsamples from sediment cores at OSU's Marine and Geology Repository
   » Utilize laboratory equipment to measure sediment porosity, organic content, and grain size distribution
   » Prepare samples for radioisotopic analysis
   » Add to a database of sediment accretion data from peer-reviewed literature
   » Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of analyses
10% Evaluation and Presentation of Sediment Analysis Results
   » Utilize computer programs for data analysis and data visualization
   » Read peer-reviewed literature to develop informed rational for data analysis
   » Write concise summaries of data analyses and results

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
   » Enrollment in an undergraduate program at Oregon State University, preferably in a significant field such as geology, oceanography, or marine resource management
   » Strong interest in scientific research and a availability to lgain new techniques and procedures
   » Comfortable working with technology
   » Exceptional attention to detail and capability to work accurately without everyday supervision
   » Excellent communication and interpersonal expertise, with the capability to convey research results, research hurdles, and planned actions/activities
   » Able to meet with manager once weekly between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to troubleshoot technical issues independently
   » Excellent organizational expertise and the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
   » Strong communication expertise, both written and verbal, with the capability to convey complex technical information effectively
   » A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
   » Completion of a Stratigraphy and Sedimentology course, or similar
