Posting DetailsPosting InformationPosting Number: FAE1830 Advertised Title: Associate Dean of Research and Community Engagement Campus Job location: Main Campus (Memphis, TN) Position Number: TBD Job Category: Administrative Executive Department: Position Summary: The Associate Dean for Research & Community Engagement will lead the creation and implementation of the College of Communication and Fine Arts' strategic plan for research and community engagement, expanding research partnerships, increasing external funding, and benefitting university and community stakeholders. To achieve these goals, the Associate Dean will identify and cultivate extramural grant opportunities offered by federal and state governments, private foundations, and non-profit organizations while facilitating professional development and mentoring for CCFA faculty and graduate students, enabling them to prosperously write, revise, and submit proposals for project funding. Further to these ends, the Associate Dean will encourage and support interdisciplinary research connections with colleges across The University of Memphis and pursue partnership opportunities with local community organizations and private industry. Responsibilities include the following: 1. Participation in School leadership abilities and administrative functions a. Meet monthly with the Dean to discuss challenges, needs, and opportunities. b. Participate in leadership abilities Team meetings with the Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Directors, and the Dean. c. Serve as an ex-officio member of the CCFA leadership abilities Team. d. Serve as the primary liaison to the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation. e. Work with other campus research leadership abilities on strategic research partnerships. f. Work with the Dean and the CCFA Advisory Board to identify needs, opportunities, and resources for research and community engagement. g. Develop and lead a new CCFA research committee to manage research-related awards,including professional development assignments, internal CCFA grants, and research and creativeactivity recognition awards. 2. Mentoring and Supporting Faculty a. Mentor faculty (especially junior faculty) on research career issues pertinent to external funding, community engagement, and promotion and tenure. b. Ensure that research mentorship aligns with the faculty member's approved college, school/department, and program/concentration area criteria for promotion and tenure. c. Coordinate annual faculty research and community engagement recognition nominations andawards, including the selection of peer reviewers for each awards category. d. Coordinate annual faculty professional development assignment proposal reviews and awards. e. Coordinate internal CCFA funding processes for individual faculty and research team awards, with emphasis on seeding projects evidencing potential for external funding support. f. Annually collect and descriptively analyze data on faculty external funding applications (funded and unfunded); publications, exhibitions, and performances; community engagement; and interdisciplinary projects initiated. 3. Resource Management and Budgeting a. Lead the development of a strategic plan to build CCFA infrastructure for externally funded research, from pre-award to post-award. b. Work with the CCFA Business agent and the Dean to identify and advocate for budgetary and facility needs for research. c. Manage college-level (Dean's) indirect cost recovery funds with assistance from the CCFA Business agent. d. Determine and articulate research- and community engagement-related priorities for future budgetary needs and growth. e. Establish and maintain a method of research accounting, in coordination with the CCFA Businessagent. f. Seek outside funding, including endowments, to support the CCFA's research infrastructure. 4. Outreach Efforts a. Work with the CCFA media coordinator to advertise faculty research and community engagement activities and accomplishments via CCFA web, social media, print, radio, podcast and local and national media outlets. b. Collaborate with the appropriate dean's office staff on research- and community engagement-related event planning and marketing. c. Facilitate joint programming and marketing with community cultural organizations, localgovernment and nonprofit agencies, and community-located facilities and programs. d. Coordinate networking events with the university development office to facilitate college-community partnerships in funded research and engaged scholarship. e. Partner with university departments, institutes, and centers conducting community-engaged research. f. Work with CCFA faculty and graduate students to initiate new community-focused research, interventions, programs, and practices. 5. Special Projects a. Lead or participate in special projects and initiatives assigned by the Dean. b. Collaborate with appropriate leadership abilities and faculty to predict and respond to changes(potentially) impacting the CCFA's research and external funding opportunities. Minimum Position Appropriate qualifications: The tenured associate or full professor shall hold a terminal degree and faculty rank in one of the units of the College of Communication and Fine Arts and should have a solid record of teaching, scholarship and service to the institution, as well as demonstrated administrative and leadership abilities expertise.
