Position Summary Information

Position Summary: The Flight Instructor, Helicopter, reports to the Program Director/Chief Helicopter Pilot for performing tasks assigned. This individual is required to pilot the aircraft in conformity with all applicable FAA regulations.
Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 150,287 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, Tennessee.

Primary tasks and Job responsibilities: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
   » Serve a Pilot in Command and Instructor Pilot of Robinson R44 and Guimbal G2 Cabri helicopters
   » tasks will be performed at Clarksville Regional Airport (KCKV). Occasional travel may be involved (ferry flights)
   » Conducting flight training to include Flight Training Devices (FTD) instruction
   » Conducting maintenance check flights
   » Transportation of equipment, personnel, and VIPs
   » Support the university and program activities, to include flights and promotional exhibits
   » Conduct classroom academics, if the instructor meets the APSU faculty qualifications
expertise, expertise, and Abilities:
   » capability to work alternative schedules as required for training and FAA needs, which may include weekend flights

Physical Requirements: The following physical requirements include the following:
   » Weight of 200 lbs. or less, preferred
   » Maintain a FAA Class II Medical Certificate
   » Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently to flight control surfaces. Must be able to move and load 50 lbs. of material without assistance or use of additional equipment in a timely manner
   » Body agility is emphasized to execute preflight, post flight, and emergency exit actions, which include the following: climbing (ladders), balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, and handling
   » Demonstrate the digital dexterity to required for keypad entry of flight management system
   » capability to work in weather environments that are exposed to heat, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions.
   » Exposure to noise levels that are constant or intermittent or a pitch or level sufficient to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss.
Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: The following are the minimum qualifications for this position:
   » Associates degree in aviation of closely related field
   » capability to work any assigned shift or schedule, including university support, outside normal duty hours, and travel as required
   » Valid and current Rotorcraft Helicopter CFII certificate
   » Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate
   » No previous suspension or revocation of pilot designation(s) or rating(s)

The following current FAA rating are required:
   » Certified Flight Instructor - Rotorcraft
   » Certified Flight Instructor Instrument - Rotorcraft
Employment is contingent upon a favorable background check

MINIMUM Required practice
   » 500 hours logged pilot time
   » Flight instructor qualifications, IAW §61.195(h)
   » SFAR 73 flight instructor compliance
PREFERRED Minimum Qualifications and practice

   » Bachelors degree in aviation or closely related field, master's degree preferred
   » 750 hours logged total pilot time
   » 100 hours as an instructor to include 25 hours of instrument instruction
   » No previous aviation accident record
   » practice in a Part 141
