Organizational Unit Overview The Division of University Advancement is the friend-raising and fund-raising arm of the general academic areas of the university; therefore, all of its activities are designed to generate support, financial or otherwise for East Carolina University. The units and subunits within the division work together to identify, involve, cultivate, and solicit alumni and friends of the university to gain financial support from the private sector for the purpose of enhancing the long- and short-range growth and welfare of the university. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement is responsible for the following diverse units: Alumni Relations, ECU Foundation, Medical and Health Sciences Foundation of ECU and University Development

Job tasks
   » The Director of Development is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with a wide variety of constituents including alumni, donors, divisional colleagues, campus partners, and volunteers.
   » The Director of Development will regularly communicate with previous scholarship recipients and current scholarship supporters.
   » The Director of Development will build a growing pipeline of philanthropic gifts from young alumni and future major prospects that will support strategic initiatives, particularly annually funded scholarships and student experiential learning opportunities.
   » The Director of Development will work closely with the Regional Gift Team, Prospect Development team, ECU Foundation Director of Development, Annual Giving team, Alumni Relations team, the Honors College, and the Office of Scholarships.

75% - Fundraising and Donor Engagement
   » The Director of Development will manage a portfolio to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward leadership abilities annual giving and major gift prospects who are interested in giving to student support funds.
   » The Director of Development will meet face to face and virtually with prospective and current donors who live locally and in designated regions including but not limited to North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
   » The Director of Development will coordinate with divisional and campus partners to provide opportunities for prospective and current donors to interact with current ECU students and campus leaders on and off campus.
   » The Director of Development will develop ideas for personalized touch points for current and prospective donors.
   » The Director of Development will work consistently and accurately with the alumni and donor database to ensure that contacts, solicitations, and other donor activities are entered in a timely manner and donor records are accurate.

25%- Scholarship Content Expert
   » The Director of Development will work closely with the Regional Gift Team, Prospect Development team, Annual Giving team, Alumni Relations team, the Honors College, and the Office of Scholarships to maximize scholarship fundraising efforts.
   » The Director of Development will maintain robust knowledge of student support funding priorities and regularly communicate those priorities to the fundraising teams.
   » The Director of Development will work closely with the ECU Foundation Director of Development to supervise the scholarship administration and donor stewardship processes within each college and unit.
Minimum Education/practice
   » A Bachelor's degree
   » A minimum of 2 years of full-time professional practice working in a relationship-located function or other related professions
   » Demonstrated practice managing multiple tasks in an environment of frequent interruptions
   » Must be proficient using Microsoft Office software

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation None

   » Strong organization and interpersonal expertise with a solid attention to detail
   » Strong active listening expertise
   » Exhibit time management expertise that allow for appropriate follow up and adaptation to emerging needs
   » knowledge of the culture and mechanics of higher education fundraising
   » Familiarity with software like Blackbaud, Ascend, Agilon ONE, and ThankView
   » Demonstrated appetite for being an effective team player
   » Familiarity with ECU
   » Demonstrated success in overcoming barriers and problem solving
   » Exceptional relationship building expertise
   » Goals oriented, exhibit a strong work ethic, and motivated to be an effective member of this mission driven organization
   » Willing to approach functions and tasks with a commitment to the mission and values of East Carolina University
