Job Summary The Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research adjunct position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head. The Faculty Research adjunct will join the laboratory of Dr. Brandon Pearson in the Environmental and Molecular Toxicology Department at Oregon State University. The goal of the laboratory is to understand the mechanistic function of environmental exposures in chronic diseases. The lab has major strengths in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases and applies a range of experimental tools to investigate them. The FRA will work under direct supervision of Dr. Pearson performing research laboratory experiments and maintaining laboratory operations. This position will provide research support for neuroscience and toxicology research using tissue and cell culture, laboratory animal models (fishes and mice), and in human biospecimens. The position is will perform research/support including animal husbandry, antibody-located detection approaches including ELISAs and fluorescence immunohistochemistry, contributing to peer-reviewed publications, and laboratory management to maintain operations of the scientific and administrative functions of the lab. Key Responsibilities 70% - Research, Preparing and Performing Experiments, and Data Analysis Ensure care and health of laboratory animals including animal husbandry in full compliance with regulations and protocols. Maintain laboratory animal census. Collect experimental samples from laboratory animals and maintain sample repositories. Prepare primary cell cultures and maintain cell lines. Perform antibody-located detection approaches including ELISAs and fluorescence immunohistochemistry. Use conventional and fluorescence microscopes to visualize and collect data from prepared samples and live cells and tissues. Develops and designs experiments and processes as needed to support lab efficiency and research needs. Securely store and maintain samples, images, and laboratory data. Provide detailed record of experimental activities and results in a laboratory notebook. Perform analysis of data and interpret/draw conclusions from results. Experiments are performed independently or to support graduate or postdoc projects as assigned by PI. 20% - Laboratory Maintenance and Support Prepare stock solutions. Conduct inventory of supplies and order materials and consumables when required. Prepare records of supplies received, and unpack, restock, and rotate stock on hand. Help in the collection, sorting, labelling, and storage of chemical waste following EH&S regulations. Foster a collaborative and inclusive research environment for Faculty, staff, and students. 10% - Prepare Reports and Presentations, and Attend Meetings Prepare data summaries and basic statistical analyses, graph data, as requested by PI. Prepare slides for presentations. Attend weekly lab meeting and present results. Perform computational analyses as directed by the PI. Contribute to and/or co-author papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. What You Will Need Bachelor's degree in Biology or closely related field. Two years of previous laboratory practice in cell or molecular biology. Evidence of competence in written and spoken English. Detail oriented and organized, willing to meet deadlines, adaptable, and dependable. Self-motivated, willing to lgain new expertise, and can work well independently and within a team. Willing to follow written and oral instructions. Willing to use humanely euthanize research animals for biomedical research studies.
