Job Summary The connected Students of Oregon State University (ASOSU) unit is seeking a Student Government Advisor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Student Government Advisor exists to provide advising support for student shared governance at the Oregon State University (OSU) Corvallis Campus and to aid in the creation of civically engaged students.

The Student Government Advisor is charged with providing guidance and administrative support to the connected Students of Oregon State University (ASOSU) student government, working in close partnership with and reporting to the Senior Student Government Advisor. The Student Government Advisor assists with tracking the ASOSU student government budget, in close concert with the ASOSU President and the Senior Student Government Adviser. Together with the ASOSU unit professional faculty/staff, the Student Government Advisor contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of short and long-range goals and objectives in alignment with University Policy and the University's Strategic Plan.

The Student Government Advisor serves as primary advisor to student leaders involved in the ASOSU Senate, Pilot Lounges and other Pilot programs, Faculty Senate student appointees, Records Clerk and Archivist, and other committees and workgroups. The Student Government Advisor supports and partners with other professional faculty who provide advisory support to other ASOSU student government leaders, and serves as a key member of the ASOSU advisor team.

The work of the ASOSU Advisor often involves handling sensitive issues and facilitating collaboration and assisting in the advancement of ideas on significant projects. The Student Government Advisor assists with resolving conflict, negotiating solutions, and collaborating to accomplish tasks. The Student Government Advisor also serves as the primary transition team leader for newly elected Senators, and is responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive leadership abilities training plan for all the ASOSU Senate encompassing university financial policies, ASOSU and University governance structure, parliamentary norms and procedures, and other topics as chosen by the Office of the Dean of Students and ASOSU leadership abilities.

The Student Government Coordinator serves as a member of the ASOSU unit professional staff team and reports to the Senior Student Government Advisor.

Key Responsibilities 35% Advising and Advocacy for the Student leadership abilities of the ASOSU
   » everyday advising and guidance for ASOSU student leaders in the Senate, on Faculty Senate committees, various ASOSU student committees and workgroups, as well as ASOSU pilot programs
   » Providing guidance on academic, personal, interpersonal, peer-to-peer leadership abilities, and other topics, grounded in theories of student and leadership abilities development
   » Assist in the development, execution, and evaluation of a comprehensive summer training program and continued development training opportunities all over the year for ASOSU Student Staff
   » Assist in the coordination and implementation of annual Inauguration event
   » Primary transition leader for newly elected Senators
   » Provide 1:1 support to student leaders and honor the necessary trust and privacy required for supporting sensitive student government matters

20% Budgeting & Finance
   » Track expenditures and monitor spending in ASOSU indices, under the general guidance of the Senior Student Government Advisor
   » Continue growing efforts for additional sustainable funding models for services and programs with the unit staff and students, outside student fees
   » Provide direct advisory support to the ASOSU Senate Budgets Committee

20% Operations
   » Responsible for leadership abilities of student governance assessment activities
   » Assist in record keeping, including organizing items of significance
   » Assists in superviseing and maintaining updated webpages content, and support ASOSU communication and marketing efforts through tabling, events, and other outreach

20% Onboarding, Hiring, & Training
   » Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, and continued development of student staff through completion of quarterly eligibility checks, onboarding staff to their emails and equipment, and other orientation tasks
   » Working in consultation with student leadership abilities, manage the strategic growth and models of staff support for the students of the ASOSU and their services
   » supervises collaborative, external relationships and foster opportunities to develop and enhance the identification, service, recruitment, and retention efforts of ASOSU student government, both internally to OSU and externally with significant partners

5% Other tasks as Assigned
   » Serve as a team member in the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS). Represent the ODOS or ASOSU unit on university and community committees as requested or appointed
   » Carries out additional projects and tasks as assigned
What You Will Need
   » Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Education, Business, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field
   » 1 year progressive professional work practice gaining requisite expertise, expertise and abilities pertaining to the position, specifically related to higher education, student development or leading student life programs.
