Organizational Unit Overview The Division of Hematology/Oncology is within the department of Pediatrics. The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest clinical departments within the East Carolina University School of Medicine. The mission of the Department is to provide quality patient care, to teach medical students and residents, and to do research. Additionally, Information technology is the mission of the division to provide model comprehensive hematology and oncology consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific expertise through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for providers in the region. The achievement of this mission requires a full staff commitment to the goals and operations of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Department of Pediatrics, the East Carolina University School of Medicine, and East Carolina University.

Job tasks The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is recruiting for a Medical Therapeutics Specialist. The major purpose of this position is to provide physical therapy services to patients and education for patients and their families, as well as extended care givers. The superviseing and coordination of these services includes but is not limited to:

· Provide Physical Therapy evaluation and treatment services for ECU Health Hemophilia Treatment Center (ECU HTC) Adult/Ped patients with all Bleeding and Clotting Disorders
· Provide PT evaluation and treatment services for Pediatric Sickle Cell Disease and Oncology Patients
· Develop treatment plans and intervention techniques located on multiple assessment tools
· Select appropriate therapeutic interventions located on individual patient needs
· Implement treatment plans and intervention techniques
· Utilize therapeutic interventions for evaluation and treatment services including Kinesiotaping, Aquatics, Complementary Pain Management Techniques
· Educate patients and families on an individualized approach to general fitness, exercise, safe sport participation, and pain management in the context of their disorder
· Provide differential diagnosis skills with medical team assistance to develop the optimum treatment plan for each patient
· Provide appropriate re-evaluations, follow up, and continuity of care planning
· Collect and report treatment data for research projects; assist with design and implementation of research protocols; participate in dissemination of research results through papers and presentations
· Understand function of PT in ATHN Research studies in HTC
· General expertise of functional anatomy, physiology, and skeletal biomechanics
· Full expertise of medical conditions involved in area of specialty
· Attend Regional, National, and International Conferences to maintain and
· increase expertise in all patient populations and for continued competency for PT licensure
· Develop and disseminate patient/family information, staff development material, community guidance regarding PT as Information technology relates to ECU Peds Hem/Onc patient populations and the broader community
· Instruct others in areas of skills
· Coordinate care among various departments and along continuum - IP through OP care - for PT services for ECU Peds Hematology/Oncology patients
· Assist in planning educational events/activities at the local level
· Provide lectures to ECU DPT program regarding Peds Hem/Onc and the HTC

Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a flexible scheduled late day to accommodate patient care, Monday through Friday.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center. ECU Health Medical Center is the flagship hospital for the ECU Health system and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/practice Bachelor's or Master's degree in the therapeutic specialty area to which assigned. Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure in speech pathology, audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or other fields. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation NC PT License.

capability to obtain certificate of completion from UC San Diego Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Point of Care (MSKUS POC) curriculum within one year of hire. Training will be provided by ECU.
