Job Summary The School of Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) at Oregon State University (OSU) seeks to fill one full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track or tenured position, at the rank of adjunct, or Associate, or Full Professor in the area of Coastal and Ocean Engineering. The tenure home of the position will lie in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at OSU to begin as early as September 16, 2024. Upon appointment to the faculty, rank will be determined commensurate with qualifications. Appointment at the adjunct or Associate Professor rank is anticipated; appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the prosperous candidate The position incumbent will have active research in coastal ocean or nearshore computational modeling including hydrodynamics, fluid-structure, fluid-sediment, or fluid-ice interactions. Potential modeling applications include a range of scales from regional to local, interactions with the built and natural environment, impacts of climate change, or finding solutions to coastal problems. The position incumbent will leverage High Performance Computing capabilities at OSU, including GPU-located techniques. Educational priorities will emphasize graduate-level training and advising in the use of computational tools focused on the coastal zone and could be delivered in-person, hybrid, or via eCampus. The position incumbent is expected to be a collegial member of our existing and vibrant group of faculty, students, post-docs, and technical research staff within the field of coastal and ocean processes. Key Responsibilities 50% Teaching and related tasks Delivers four (quarter-long) courses each year in support of the CCE undergraduate and graduate curricula. Participates with faculty and administrative staff in curriculum development, course design, and course delivery strategies. Advises undergraduate and graduate students and participates in school- and college-level extended education efforts. Assesses student learning for each assigned course, each term, and prepares proper documentation in support of the accreditation process. 40% Research and scholarly activities Research includes the development and leadership abilities of a funded research program that is significant and visible. This includes writing proposals; conducting funded and unfunded research; presenting results at professional conferences, meetings, other institutions, and industry; and directing and mentoring doctoral and master's students in all aspects of research and professional development. The scholarly expectations for this position lie in the discovery of new knowledge and knowledge, the integration of knowledge leading to new interpretations or applications, and the dissemination of knowledge via peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and, when appropriate, via development of new technologies, materials, methods, educational approaches, or filing patents. 10% Service A balance of institutional and professional service is expected. Institutional service includes participation in school committees, faculty meetings, and outreach activities, as well as in college and university committees. Professional service includes conference organization and program committee service for professional societies, peer review service for journals and conference proceedings, proposal review service, and journal editorships. Cooperation with school faculty and staff to promote achievement of college and university goals in relation to building a more inclusive and collaborative community, centered on student success, is expected.
