Organizational Unit Overview The mission of the college is to serve as a national model for transforming the health of rural underserved regions through excellence and innovation in nursing education, leadership abilities, research, scholarship and practice.

The purpose of this project is to provide for the geriatric workforce and older adults with education and training to enhance healthy aging, improve dementia care, prevent dementia and increase the number of new graduates who choose long-term care for employment. The purpose will be accomplished by delivery of standard programs and developing and implementing education and training in the program required topics that meets grant results.

This project builds on previous work and will focus on Tribal, Tribal Organizations, Underserved and Rural regions of eastern NC. Collaborations with Area Agencies on Aging, Dementia Alliance of North Carolina, and County Senior Centers will support the development of community-located education and the engagement of the participants. Professionals (students and practicing healthcare professionals) will be engaged through relationships established previously with stakeholders.

This grant is part of an extremely complex interdisciplinary project led by partners at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and others across North Carolina.

Job tasks Independently and effectively establish community partnerships and collaborate with those partners to schedule and deliver community events that meet grant results.
Use creative, evidence-located educational practices to develop, implement, evaluate and revise curricula that facilitate the accomplishment of the grant results and meet learning needs of the participants. results include promotion of healthy aging, avoidance of dementia, quality care for those living with dementia, and improving workforce needs in the care of older adults.

Critically analyze the participant responses during community events and quickly and effectively adapt presentations, agenda and activities to meet the identified needs of those participants.

Work effectively with those from different socioeconomic backgrounds from the applicant to establish and prosperously deliver community-located events.

Uses skills in nursing education to educate undergraduate nursing students in the care of older adults in long-term care settings.

Collaborates with the team to provide training that improves dementia care such as Positive Approach to Care, Virtual Dementia Tour, etc.

Mentor select faculty in the development of clinical teaching skills for long-term care settings.

Interacts with learners in a manner conveying respect, sensitivity and passion for their achievement of learning results.

This position requires travel to grant events all over eastern NC, with the employee responsible for arranging their own transportation.

Position will be occasionally expected to accommodate after normal business hours. This is a time-limited, part-time position, 12 hours per week.

Minimum Education/practice Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of practice in the area of specialization.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation State of North Carolina Registered Nursing License

Preferred practice, Skills, Training/Education practice with undergraduate nursing curriculum development and evaluation. Clinical teaching practice with undergraduate nursing students in community college or university settings.

Face to face and virtual teaching practice delivering content to professional students, healthcare professionals and lay the public, especially older adults.

In-depth expertise of Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders including avoidance and care.

practice working with older adults and caregivers of those living with dementia or related disorders.

broad expertise of the communities and populations of eastern North Carolina.

Advanced expertise of state and regional resources for healthy aging and quality dementia care.

Two years of adult or geriatric nursing practice and/or practice in resident care in long-term care facilities (assisted living, skilled nursing centers, rehab, etc).

Certification as a trainer for the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, and/or facilitator for Virtual Dementia Tour and Positive Approach to Care or willing to obtain certification.

Expert computer skills in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

practice with independent research productivity that includes accurate data collection, contribution to evaluation and analysis of data for publication and reporting to the granting agency.

Excellent interpersonal, telephone, organizational and written skills.

License or Certification required by the Department State of North Carolina Registered Nursing License
