The selected candidate will be part of an exciting research program studying T cell and B cell responses to hepatitis C virus vaccines. Members of DVP are actively engaged in research on a variety of viral pathogens as well as live and inactivated vaccines. The DVP is located at the FDA White Oak campus in Silver Spring, Maryland and is part of the CBER research program, which includes more than 70 principal investigators. These investigators lead research teams in the fields of virology, bacteriology and gene therapy employing state-of-the-art techniques to address critical public health issues as part of the CBER mission. In addition to BSL-3, ABSL-3 and animal care facilities, the newly built laboratory complex at White Oak includes core facilities, such as flow cytometry and confocal and electron microscopy. Job responsibilities: As a Staff Fellow/Visiting Associate, the candidate will perform the following major tasks: » Conducting studies as part of an exciting research program applicable to the area of viral vaccines. » Performing regulatory review of licensed and experimental vaccines and novel treatment modalities. QUALIFICATIONS BASIC Appropriate qualifications: General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences (0401): Degree in Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, – OR – Combination of education and practice: Courses equivalent to a major, plus appropriate practice or additional education. ADDITIONAL Appropriate qualifications: Ph.D. in immunology, virology or equivalent doctoral degree (M.D., D.V.M., DVM., or Sc.D. etc.) is required. REQUIRED SPECIALIZED practice: Candidates must have demonstrated state-of-the-art research interests related to virology, immunology of viral diseases, or viral pathogenesis with direct relevance to the development and evaluation of new viral vaccines. The candidate should have practice handling small animals and have an excellent publication record of research productivity. practice with hepatitis C virus is not required. FOREIGN suitable education If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
