Job tasks: Overview: Tutors provide individual and small group tutoring sessions in subjects in which the tutor has attained a grade of A. The Tutor facilitates learning as a guide to assist the student to become a prosperous, independent learner. The purpose of tutoring is to increase and enhance mastery of concepts or applications of a specific course of study. Tutors integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the tutee's potential for academic progress. Training for Tutors is mandatory. Tutors are expected to communicate well with students, faculty, and STARS.

Essential Functions
   » Support students individually or in small groups with knowledge content by helping them develop the expertise necessary for learning: providing subject-area knowledge and mentoring students on the strategies, techniques, and attitudes needed for prosperous mastery of the material.
   » Deliver presentations on various academic expertise and strategies to student organizations and across campus.
   » Maintain confidentiality and uphold FERPA requirements.
   » Achieve and advance certification through the College Reading and Language Association (CRLA) as a Peer Educator. Pay raises are commensurate with additional CRLA certifications. (All training is paid, and we work with your class schedule to determine your work hours).
   » Other tasks as assigned by the Tutoring Specialist.

Communication
   » Meet regularly with the program specialists to discuss program objectives and needs.
   » Communicate with student-employee team members.
   » Promote student consciousness of all programs/services offered.
   » Participate in outreach and tabling events.
Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
   » Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in good standing.
   » Currently enrolled at Lamar University, Beaumont.
   » Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status in the Fall 2024 semester (preferred).
   » Must be available for pre-semester training and regular staff meetings.
   » Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication expertise.
   » Strong study expertise and prosperous student habits and behaviors.
   » Capacity and desire to work with students of various backgrounds.
   » Highly dependable, punctual, and adaptable.
   » capability to work independently and as part of a team.
   » Strong academic expertise and habits that you can model for students.
   » capability to clearly explain information in multiple ways.
   » capability to quickly establish rapport with others.
   » Belief that anyone can grow and improve regardless of where they start.
Physical Requirements:
   » Visual acuity to read written or printed text on screens or paper.
   » capability to communicate effectively verbally and/or through writing.
   » Manual dexterity for writing, typing, and reaching.
   » capability to move safely to and from various buildings across campus.
   » capability to lift and move objects no heavier than 10 pounds.
