Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Research Analyst 3:Data Manager position for the Human and Ecosystem Resilience and Sustaincapability Lab, at Oregon State University-Cascades.

The mission of the HERS Lab is to advance, apply and facilitate global, national and regional research on sustainable and resilient human communities and ecosystems. The HERS Lab delivers skills in ecological assessment and monitoring, natural resource conservation, and sustaincapability theory and practice to support evidence-located conservation for the 21st Century. As a subdivision of the HERS Lab, the Northwestern Hub for Bat Population Research and Monitoring (NW Bat Hub) addresses this mission by studying the persistence and extinction risks of bats in the context of growing threats from white-nose syndrome and rapid environmental changes occurring across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. The NW Bat Hub provides skills on the natural history and ecology of bats, methods of survey design and acoustic call processing for species identification, and statistical analysis.

The NW Bat Hub's research and monitoring projects involve the collection and maintenance of a large volume of bat acoustic call recordings for an knowledge of species distributions and activity. The Research Analyst 3 will be involved in collecting, processing, and analyzing this data within the NW Bat Hub and establishing and implementing a research agenda in collaboration with the Hub Coordinator. candidates for this position should highlight data management and analysis skills clearly in the work practice section of the application.

OSU-Cascades, located in Bend, Oregon, is a branch campus of Oregon State University. Established in 2001, the university currently enrolls more than 1,200 students in bachelor's and master's degree programs. The campus expanded to a fouryear university in 2015, opened its 10-acre campus in fall 2016, and the Oregon legislature approved additional funding in 2017 and 2018 for continued campus expansion, which is currently in progress. Key Responsibilities 75% Research Development and Analysis
   » -Works collaboratively with the Hub Coordinator and project partners to establish and implement a research agenda that utilizes data collected by the Hub (and/or partners) to provide regular assessments of regional bat species status and trends.
   » -Works independently to develop and carry out statistical analyses of Bat Hub data, with specific emphasis on hierarchical occupancy modeling in a Bayesian framework, to establish and update long-term status and trends for bat species as documented by the implementation of the NABat protocol in the Pacific Northwest.
   » -Develops, refines, and documents Bat Hub's data management protocols.
   » -supervises the maintenance of bat acoustic data and connected metadata following the Bat Hub's established protocols.
   » -Assists in the development of survey research instruments (ArcGIS Field Maps, electronic datasheets, paper datasheets). -Gathers and compiles raw quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources including state and federal agency partners.
   » -Compiles and organizes metadata (e.g., site-related data [spatial coordinates, habitat characterizations]} from field deployments.
   » -Performs quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures all over the data management process to maintain overall data integrity. Specifically, incorporates auto-complete functions into the digital data collection platform, develops R code, and uses geographic information systems (GIS) software to verify the accuracy of field metadata and connected acoustic data.
   » -Regularly develops new R (and/or other programming language) code for complex data management tasks and integrates code with GIS software (i.e. ArcPy) and relational databases such as Microsoft Access and PostgreSQL.
   » -Compiles and organizes bat acoustic data from storage media onto a server and cloud storage.
   » -Performs processing of bat acoustic data including running filtering operations to separate files with bat call data from those without, attributing call files with metadata, and running auto-classification procedures of call files with call identification software (e.g. Sonobat).
   » -Maintains a database of all connected metadata and bat acoustic data, including compiling auto-classification and manually reviewed call file results and entering these data into a database matching these data with connected field metadata. -Leads the Bat Hub in researching, designing, and developing database systems for future implementation of database improvements.
   » -Develops, displays, and maintains data in graphs, summary tables, and charts.

15% Report Preparation
   » -Assists in reporting by performing queries of the database in response to data requests from the Bat Hub Coordinator and its partners as directed by the Bat Hub Coordinator. Prepares queries into formats necessary for the desired request. -Summarizes data into various formats including drafting summary tables, graphs, and charts, and assists in writing short reports, simple research monographs, and/or sections of major reports.
   » -Collaborate with the Coordinator and Bat Hub partners to generate scientific publications summarizing NABat activities and results for the Pacific Northwest.

10% Overall Lab Project Support
   » -Assists the Bat Hub Coordinator in other tasks connected with planning and organizing research projects and day-to-day operation of the Bat Hub and its deliverables.
   » -Coordinates with agency partners to ensure timely and well-organized data transfers, completion of permits, report distribution, and execution of other collaborative tasks.
   » -Supports statistical analyses and data management needs for other projects conducted by the HERS Lab, as necessary.
What We Require
Two years of research practice independently gathering, compiling, and analyzing data using statistical methods (inferential, multivariate analysis, etc.); using statistical software packages to manipulate the data; and preparing narrative or statistical reports and college-level course in statistics (at least six quarter hours); OR An equivalent combination of training and practice. Transcripts must be submitted for all required and/or related courses. Please highlight the statistical courses.NOTE: Some agencies may require practice in using trends (such as social, economical, industrial, etc.).
