KTOO is hiring a managing editor to lead our small but mighty newsroom. This person will shape editorial decisions, set priority for KTOO news coverage and ensure the distribution of high quality audio and digital stories.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication expertise, practice leading and/or editing for a team of reporters, and a desire to lgain new things. The KTOO Managing Editor reports to the President and General Manager and serves on KTOO's organizational management team.
tasks and Job responsibilities:
   » Lead and provide direct supervision to a team of editors, reporters and hosts to deliver the highest quality journalism for audio and digital platforms.
   » Hire and train news staff, offering a steady stream of constructive, honest and rigorous feedback to reporters with clarity and kindness, fostering growth.
   » Provide a roadmap for long-term coverage across all beats, ensuring inclusion and a
focus on equity in sources, coverage area, and topics.
   » Collaborate with the Audience Engagement Editor to provide content for and grow
audiences that have been historically underserved and underrepresented in traditional media.
   » Identify tools and platforms essential to innovation in storytelling and audience
engagement, and advocate for their deployment.
   » Find and foster opportunities to partner with other mission-driven organizations to
expand the reach of our newsroom or the offerings we provide to our audiences.
   » Occasionally report news stories and produces and/or host news programs, special
projects, newscasts, news magazine programs, documentaries, breaking news, and
special events coverage on all platforms
   » Other tasks as assigned
Preferred Appropriate qualifications:
   » Bachelor's or Master's degree
   » At least five years journalism practice and an enthusiasm for local news.
   » At least two years of practice managing a team and/or leading projects where people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives and abilities feel they can do their best work, preferably in journalism.
   » At least two years of practice in recording, producing, and editing stories for radio broadcast. Live hosting practice is a bonus.
   » A demonstrated commitment to diversity, ensuring that story topics and sources reflect the communities we cover while empowering a team of journalists who bring with them a variety of identities and lived practices.
   » Commitment to the craft of powerful storytelling AND the availability to teach others.
   » Demonstrated strategic thinking about audience-centered news priorities.

Compensation: Annual income between $72,665 and $79,610 commensurate with practice. Plus competitive benefits including health insurance, retirement, generous paid leave and holidays, and 20 weeks of paid family leave.
