Two faculty members will be hired from this posting, one for graduate advising and one for undergraduate advising. These positions are 12-month, non-tenured faculty positions. The desired candidates will hold a Master's degree or higher in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field, or a J.D. Information technology is preferred the candidates have practice in teaching Criminology or Criminal Justice related courses in higher education, as well as academic advising practice and an interest in student recruitment. The minimum teaching load is eight courses per year; three courses each fall and spring, and two in summer semester, or a smaller number of courses complemented by advising, admissions, or recruiting responsibilities within the department. The prosperous candidates will provide academic advisement for prospective and current students within the Criminology and Criminal Justice Department. The preferred candidates will have excellent written and oral communication expertise, and have the capability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality of student records and interactions. Demonstrated ties to the Memphis area criminal justice community is desired. Job tasks 1. Teach courses as required by the Department and College in an area appropriate to the candidate's background. 2. Answer student inquiries and resolve problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to catalogs, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources. 3. Initiate and maintain individual student files as appropriate, updating and evaluating files as new information is received, and assess individual academic level. 4. Engage with students in individual and one-on-one advising meetings to provide assistance with knowledge degree and program requirements. 5. Provide appropriate referral to support services for students. 6. Prepare form and individual letters and information packets in support of group and/or individual recruitment efforts; attend and participate in individual and group orientation and other informational and recruiting events. 7. Assist students in the selection of appropriate courses and development of academic plans and class schedules. 8. Assist in the preparation of class schedules. 9. Attend occasional evening and weekend recruiting events. 10.
