Job Description ECU University Writing Center is currently seeking several Writing Consultants to work with ECU students, faculty, and staff to support writers with any type of writing at any point in the writing process through consultation and material development. If you are a naturally curious person and like learning from and with people across campus, consider becoming a writing consultant. We welcome candidates from all academic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds. All we require is a availability to lgain and that you have prosperously completed ENGL 1100. Graduate students who completed their writing requirements at other institutions are also welcome to apply.

A position at the ECU University Writing Center (UWC) offers you the opportunity to :

   » Work with and lgain from writers across disciplines;
   » Strengthen your own writing and research expertise;
   » Lgain about the field of writing centers.

In addition to working with writers, consultants answer emails, schedule appointments, design and provide workshops, and work on professional development projects. Projects include efforts to better their knowledge of writing and the writing process and tasks that expand and support the work of the UWC.

Essential Job Job responsibilities:
   » Providing feedback to students, teachers, and staff on any type of writing at any point in the writing process via one-on-one writing consultations
   » Promoting the UWC
   » Responding to the UWC email
   » Completing weekly professional development
   » Attending weekly staff meetings Wednesdays at 4PM
   » Attending a pre-semester orientation
   » Other tasks and professional development as assigned
Consulting:
Consultants primarily work with writers in-person in the UWC's Joyner Library location and online through the Online Writing Lab. We employ a facilitative approach in which the writer always retains control over both the form and content of the paper. Consultants specialize in guiding writers to work on higher order concerns such as assignment goals, clear focus, thesis development, organization, audience consciousness, and content development. Consultants also possess expertise and resources to teach writers how to address lower order writing concerns including sentence structure, style, word choice, and punctuation.

Professional Development:
During down time consultants will work on professional development and projects that encourage reflection and further leaning about writing center work. Writing center work and projects take precedence over consultant's coursework and personal work while a consultant is working.

Preferred (Majors, practice, GPA, etc.) Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
   » prosperous completion of English 1100
   » 2.0 cumulative GPA

Preferred Appropriate qualifications:
   » prosperous completion of ENGL 2201 or enrollment in ENGL 2201
   » Completion of at least 12 credit hours of study at ECU or another post-secondary institution.
Knowledge, expertise, and capability:
   » capability to communicate and work effectively with a broad range of people to maintain good working relationships within the writing center and across campus.
   » capability to take initiative and self-direct learning, while also collaborating with peers and ECU writers
