Mandatory Position This position is designated as ?mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions. Primary Purpose of Position This position will serve as the ?lead' technician for both fire alarm and fire suppression systems with responsibility for everyday coordination of professional installation, maintenance, and repair of the University's sophisticated fire protection equipment and/or systems. Will supervise the work of fire protection contractors to ensure accountcapability and will serve with state construction and fire safety officials. Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of practice related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and practice. University Preferred Appropriate qualifications: Graduation from a technical college with an Associate degree in electromechanical technology or instrumentation technology and four years practice related to the area of assignment practice; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related practice. Essential Job tasks » Repair, maintain, install, and optimize fire alarm and fire suppression systems and equipment, adhering to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and North Carolina State Construction standards. » Maintain accurate and precise documentation daily. » Maintain a clean and safe work environment. » Communicate professionally and provide excellent customer service. » Interpret and understand blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, and operational product manuals. » Assist in everyday workforce scheduling and prioritizing work to be accomplished. » Attend specified meetings and report resulting directions to the Fire Systems manager » Work closely with customers, project managers, fire protection contractors, and contractors from other trades to ensure optimal installation project results. » Must effectively service fire sprinkler system components and clean agent/dry chemical releasing system components, especially as they relate to fire alarm system interconnectivity. Other Work Responsibilities » Assist with fire sprinkler maintenance and service and electronic/electrical tasks. » Perform work in an efficient and organized manner. » Display a professional appearance. » Perform other tasks as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations. » Possess prosperous completion of NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code training or complete this training within 18 months of hire date. Departmental Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education » An associate's degree or trade school diploma in electronics is preferred. » Fifteen years of progressive practice in the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial-grade fire alarm systems is preferred. » capability to climb ladders, competently operate necessary tools and equipment (computers, hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, meters, etc.), and carry and move material. » capability to complete site surveys, identify code issues, and provide solutions. » Must be self-motivated, needing little direct supervision. » Expert expertise of fire alarm network communications components and infrastructure is preferred. » Working expertise of Dry Chemical and Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems is preferred. » capability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required. » Possess computer literacy » expertise and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and availability to lgain new programs. » capability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds. » capability to create and foster an atmosphere of teamwork. » The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to execute the essential functions of the position. Necessary Licenses or Certifications » NFPA Fire Alarm ITM certification or equivalent. »A valid driver's license is required . Operates assigned vehicles on and/or off-campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
