We're seeking a capable and practiced fundraiser to lead the strategy of OPB and KMHD's philanthropy programs as OPB's Senior Director, Philanthropy. This is a unique opportunity to work at a beloved public media organization that is growing its original journalism to better serve people across our region-at a time of great need for our civil society and democracy.
As a Senior, Director, Philanthropy, you'll lead and coach a talented team, to advance fundraising around key organizational priorities and initiatives. You'll work closely with people across our Development Department along with leaders in Content, Audience Engagement, Legal, Finance and other teams. You'll have the opportunity to work directly with generous and dedicated high-level supporters, while identifying and connecting with new major supporters from OPB's broad, region-wide base of members. Position Details
The Senior Director, Philanthropy is responsible for leading strategy and oversight of OPB and KMHD Philanthropy programs including the highest levels of member support (President's Council $10,000+; Cornerstone Society $1,000+), planned giving, and project/initiative support from individuals. The Senior Director's tasks emphasize the identification and cultivation of prospects, solicitation and stewardship of major outright and planned gifts to support the organization's strategic priorities. This position leads and coaches a high-performance Philanthropy team of 6 FTE. The Senior Director manages a high-performance portfolio of approximately 50 donors and prospects with capacity for contributions of $100,000+, including ?principal gifts,? creating and implementing strategies to secure optimal support. The Senior Director reports to and works closely with the VP and Chief Development agent and collaborates effectively with other Development leaders, the President and CEO, and colleagues across the organization.
Responsibilities
85% - Achieve goals for major funding of organizational strategic priorities
   » Program management (30%) - Develop, execute and analyze fundraising strategies that support and align with the objectives of OPB's Strategic Framework. Ensure a high-quality donor practice that enables thoughtful donor support through donor-centered stewardship practices, timely and significant communications, engagement at OPB-hosted and other community events and other methods. Build relationships and accelerate new participation in major giving programs such as the President's Council and Legacy Society through wide-ranging promotions and a well-rounded event strategy in partnership with Philanthropy team members and other stakeholders. Develop workplans, expense budgets and revenue projections that track to organizational priorities and strategy and analyze ROI.
   » Team management and supervision (20%) - Provide goals, prioritization and direction for Philanthropy team, while supporting the success of individual teammates. Provide evaluation and coaching to ensure high performance in revenue production, donor / prospect engagement, and strategies to grow donor support. Ensure appropriate analytic reporting in partnership with the Associate Director, Philanthropy Operations, to provide insight into executeance, opportunities and significant trends. Maintain an open, inclusive environment that incorporates team input to continually improve and grow our practices and program. Seek out appropriate opportunities to provide leadership abilities that benefits the work and development of team members while managing workload.
   » Portfolio management (35%) - Manage a personal portfolio of OPB donors and prospects, focusing on donors with capacity to make contributions of $100,000 or more. The personal revenue goal will vary depending upon initiatives in progress in addition to incremental growth of core fundraising programs. Maintain records and reports of donor contacts, actions and background information in the CRM.
   » Partner with VP/CDO, Director of Grants & Strategic Initiatives, President/CEO and other leaders on donor strategies.
10% - Collaboration and leadership abilities
   » Development leadership abilities Team - Work with other leaders from across the development department to exchange skills, practice, and feedback to facilitate effective collaborations, develop new revenue opportunities and efficiencies, contribute to department cohesion, and keep the wider organization well-informed about Philanthropy efforts.
   » contact with colleagues in other departments to gather information needed for prosperous fundraising, ensure timely communication, and create and improve efficient processes for Philanthropy.
   » Work in cross-functional partnership on teams with colleagues across the organization to ensure OPB's audience platforms and products maximize revenue and engagement opportunities.
   » Engagement in DEIAB work and learning, including integrating philosophy and practices into strategy. Seek opportunities and capacity for team members to engage in DEIAB efforts.
   » Regular engagement with the Development Committee of the Board of Directors and members of the board at large.
5% - Other Job responsibilities:
   » Advise policy and practices updates significant to Philanthropy programs.
   » Ensure accurate fulfillment and integrity of practices for donor recognition.
   » Ensure Philanthropy program compliance with IRS requirements and OPB policies with the VP/CDO.
   » Support projects and other team, departmental and organizational needs prioritized by the VP/CDO and President and CEO.
Working Conditions
This position may work fully at OPB's Portland, OR, headquarters or a hybrid schedule of generally three days in office with broad use of computer, phone, and frequent face-to-face meetings with donors, prospects, advocates and partners. Some evening and weekend work is required to carry out events and meetings. Occasional travel is largely within the region (Oregon and southwest Washington) with some national travel to participate in meetings, conferences, and professional development training. Work is fast paced with multiple projects and objectives in motion and will sometimes require moderate physical activity.

The Senior Director motivates, coaches, and supports Philanthropy team members to high achievement of revenue and activity goals, as well as professional growth. This position supervises the Associate Director, Philanthropy Operations; Associate Director, Planned Giving; and Senior Philanthropy agent. The Senior Director plans, assigns, and approves work, evaluates employee performance, and provides or facilitates training and coaching for optimal success. This position responds to grievances, hires and recommends hiring, recommends income adjustments and prepares performance documentation.

   » Seven years of prosperous practice with escalating responsibility in fundraising organizations including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation of donors for significant, leading gifts. An adept and intuitive steward of donor relationships and their philanthropy.
   » A highly skilled, instinctive fundraiser with demonstrated success in growing donor relationships and raising major outright and planned gifts to optimize philanthropic support through unrestricted member support, special initiatives and significant campaigns.
   » Demonstrated success in managery, team building and management responsibilities, coaching and mentoring skills.
   » Palpable curiosity and a growth mindset, oriented toward constant improvement and learning, and enhancing our fundraising work and staff development with innovative approaches, techniques and tools. Adaptable, flexible, and able to thrive in a changing environment.

Additional Information
   » This position reports to the VP & Chief Development agent and is benefits eligible.
   » The probable hiring range for this exempt position is between $110,000 - $120,000, depending on qualifications.
